Wedding Dress
« on: March 01, 2015, 04:20:30 PM »

We are in the process of moving house and downsizing so a mighty clear out is taking place.  Question: what to do with my wedding dress?   Do many people still have theirs?  Or did you sell it?  Or what??   Just wondered...  :-\

Mine is carefully wrapped in tissue and stored in the loft.  It is dusky pink satin, with the hood and arms covered in same colour lace, with loads of tiny pearl buttons on the arms and back.
My sister made it for me 39 years ago and I could never get rid of it (my sons will do that when I am gone)
What design is yours cherylks?

I dread the thought of downsizing, do you have much to sort?

I donated my dress to the village drama group and have the pleasure seeing it being worn in various productions. I can't get into it myself. Bit too old to play the part of a blushing bride anyway!

It does indeed sparkle, especially of my sister screaming at me to stand still while she was trying to do up the little pearl buttons!  I was so nervous I had to keep moving, making it extremely difficult for her  ;D  She certainly questioned why she had created that design!

The first one I sold and the second one is somewhere in the attic I think.

Still got mine, hand made by my mum. Daughter tried it on at around age 15/16. Too short on her as she is much taller, but also too tight! I was classed as a 10/12 back in 1977 when I wore it. She was not fat in the least & probably about a size 6 at most.

I am the proud owner of a wedding suit jacket that used to belong to my DH .........from his first marriage. Fits me beautifully!

Mine is a bit lacey with beading and rosebuds.  Has been kept in a cover, in a box, in the attic most of its life!  Can fit in it but not do it up  ;D  I'm not overly sentimental about it so think it may be sold and the funds go towards moving costs.  Having to sell all sorts to downsize.  Just got rid of cross trainer and have running machine yet to sell.  Moved our son out yesterday so loads of furniture went with him too.   ;D

I don't know why I have not got rid of it. I am normally not attached to stuff. I have moved it with me in every flitting since 1982. Seems such a waste just to throw it out - complete with long veil. One of these days..................

I have mine in a box. Daughter and I had such fun last year...her trying it on and me taking photos. Don't think she ever believed me when I told her I was as slim as her. Was a size 6 and now a 10.
I will always find a place for it......apart from that I have two other treasured items.

A Christening Robe.....which is just beautiful and a hand knitted christening shawl.

I hope one day my grandchildren will wear them.

The wedding dress is just in a box. The robe and the shawl are in special paper in a sealed bag  ;D

We have down sized in recent years but I always keep all the special little things no matter what.

I still have my father's christening shawl. Absolutely beautiful. Cream with white embroidery. Somewhere in the loft are my first satin pram shoes & little elastic bracelets someone made for me.

I have kept many special things. Have started making memory boxes for my two, with things like their little hospital bands, first shoes.

Nobody can fit into my wedding dress, but I will not part with it.

Oh I have all those things too.

It's my daughters 21st later this year. I have a book under way with pictures and baby bands going back to day one. Lots of firsts in the album. I think she will love it. All the pictures are mounted into the book. It's taking forever to do it though.

I also have my sons baby book...maybe at some point someone  ;D will be interested in that cause it's certainly not him  ::)
