help!! Zoladex!
« on: February 20, 2015, 07:11:38 AM »

Hi, :)

I am in medical menopause until they remove everything! So it's mimicking surgical menopause. I am on 2mg climavel (for 6 weeks) taken 6am ish and .5 evorel patch (1 week)

Can the estrogen fluctuate daily? I seem to have ups and down daily for instance Monday and Tuesday I was fine, I felt sane! then yesterday I felt terrible,  barely got off the sofa felt miserable, achy and had terrible palpitations, then last might was the weirdest... I go to bed because im tired then I fall asleep for about 5 mins then I m wide awake, and it feels like my brain can switch off or its like jelly, its all over the place it literally feels like its jumping around and random thoughts/images appear its quite scary then I pass out eventually!

I don't understand why its still fluctuating, do I need more? or less?  I have other symptoms/side effects that fluctuate aswell, nausea, muscle joint pain, since starting evorel last week I have noticed bloating and more nausea, slight sob the last 2 days and crying!! the last 2 days I must have cried 20 times!! so as you can see I have signs of both too much and too little... confused, I don't see my consultant until 12 march.

Hi Sazduggs. These feelings sound horrible for you. I see from your signature that you are on Zoladex - this is well known for causing mood swings, depression and joint pain so could it possibly be this?

I hope you have a better today.

Hi Sazduggs
It really hard to work out if it's hormones or other meds. I'm peri meno and had most of your symptoms to start with. I started HRT but was also on propranalol for a few months as well so I didn't know what was what! Everything soon settled. I'm off propranalol now but still get odd feelings and joint pain so I think mine was hormonal

Thanks for your replys.

Aren't side effects of zoladex the same as surgical menopause? In that it's like a sledgehammer to the system? The mood swings etc would happen after surgery no? Im beginning to think it's never going to settle  :(

How do you ladies know if you have too much to too little estrogen?

Hi Sazduggs

 :welcomemm: from me too.

I am sorry to hear you are going through this - but it is really difficult for us to advise you. From what I've read on here about other women's experiences,  surgical menopause or medically induced surgical menopause is very tricky and has an extreme effect on the body and its hormones which can take some time to adjust to.

There is (I think) someone else here whose gynae has put her on this same drug for the same reason ( not prior to hysterectomy but because of the extreme mood swings of peri-menopause and HRT not working for her). I can't remember who it is at the moment but maybe she'll be along soon.

Are you able to change the title of the thread to include "Zoladex" so that she might see - hoping I'm remembering correctly!

Hi i had zoladex it basically takes your oestrogen level down.very quickly.  I had joint pain memory issues headaches and it caused havoc with my blood pressure.  Its not the nicest drug.

Lancashirelass, my bp is up and down constantly, I'm hoping that real menopause symptoms after surgery won't be a bad. I've heard its a nasty drug.

Hi I am also on zoladex for extreme peri. I have had severe fluctuations when on estrogel. I have been moved to estradot to see if this makes it more stage. I have been getting them since October and still trying to get right dose. It has not been the easy answer

Hi donna,

Woohoo some else on zoladex  :spin: :spin: :spin: :parti: :parti: :spin:

Thought it was just me!!!

How have you found it?  It seems to be giving me every meno symptom going, I was defo peri from the beginning of last year, my severe pms started to stretch out to the whole month, looking back now a lot of the symptoms I have now I had but just mild compared to this except anxiety that was bad from the summer.

Some people on other sites seem to find zoladex a breeze with no side effects or maybe just a hot flush here and there, not fair!!

I started 1mg climavel the same day I started zoladex, then after 2 weeks I was upped to 2mg which was great then after 4-5 days I started getting more symptoms and mood swings then 2 weeks ago I was given evorel 50 on top of the 2mg and I was doing fairly well but the last 2-3 days I've been crying, adrenaline surges, nausea headaches...... Urgh it's p***ing me off now!!

I don't understand why it seems so hard to find a good level it's not like there is anything to balance as there are no orther hormones, I was hoping it would be easy to find!! How naive of me

Me too feels like still fluctuating I was up to 5 pumps of estrogel then suddenly way too high. Reducing from 75 mcg estrodot to 50 mcg consultant doesn't know why it wont settle. Its hard to keep positive I could cry & often do when friends & colleges say only had a few flushes
