Hi newbie here!,
« on: February 16, 2015, 12:22:46 PM »

Hi SO GLAD I found this site only just become a member this morning, but have been reading some of the messages from other ladies since last week. Have been at my wits end wondering why I feel like I do, normally im a happy, bubbly always try to be positive about everything kind of person but since beginning of January I feel like an emotional wreck always tired,  night sweats and hot flushes throughout day, headaches, nervousness, anxiety, aches and pains the list seems to go on. Have been on HRT elleste solo 20mg for two years now, the hot sweats became worse so my doc put me on  fluoxetine 20mg to help,  went to doc two weeks ago had loads different blood tests all came back negative, comfimed I was peri menopausal, she was very helpful said to try increasing the fluoxetine to 40 mg to see if that helps with the depression. Wants to see me again in 4 was signed me of work fo the week due back tomorrow feel so anxious, just needed to be able to tell someone, hate sounding so pathetic, I want the old me back 😥 x

Hi and welcome to MM Kath1963
I assume you have had a hysterectomy?  You say you are on Elleste Solo which are the pills and some women find that oestrogen as patches or gel work better as the pills pass through the liver and therefore absorption in the body can be affected. You are on a medium dose but if you are still in your 40s or early 50s you might need a higher dose?
Hopefully others who are using oestrogen only treatment will be along to advice.   DG x

It might still be worth trying transdermal oestrogen in gel or patch.  Dg x

Hi Kath1963 I'm new like you this morning ,I posted New and desperate !
So this is a bit of blind leading the blind sorry, but just to let you know you're not alone, I usually are like you pretty up beat and in control but trying to get my HRT tweaked after 4 years settled has left me you with symptoms like yours but strangely no flushes but everything else, anxiety, panicked, aches, tired terrible insomnia etc .Can't help on your HRT sorry but persevere, listen to your body,I do and don't be afraid to stand your ground at doctors if need be,mine is hopeless, maybe yours is better. If you really don't feel up to work I don't think you should push yourself as this might add to your anxiety,IMHO. Hope we all feel bit brighter soon and thank goodness for this site and support from the lovely ladies who understand what this feels like when all you can say is I just feel awful ! Xx

Hi Kath1963

 :welcomemm: from me too.

The doctor should not have given you fluoxetine instead of trying to tweak your oestrogen dose. This can be quite difficult to come off if you've been taking it a long time.

I agree with Dancinggirl - you may well find that transdermal HRT will enable you to get a more consistent dose that will deal with your flushes - some women do not absorb the oestrogen from tablet HRT quite so well.

Here are the different types (scroll down for the Non-tablet -patches and gel):
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/treatafter.php

I would go back sooner than 4 weeks and ask to change HRT rather than increase the fluoxetine (if there was no reason for you to feel anxious and deporessed until you became peri-menopausal) - I would consider this to be a last resort. The fact that you are still getting flushes indicates that your oestrogen is low and this will contribute to anxiety and low mood.

In addition have you considered whether the Mirena might be contributing to your symptoms - I can see you've had it for a while but some women absorb more of the progestogen into their bloodstream than others and this can give side effects eg headaches etc. Just a thought.

Hope this helps
