Hello LindyLouLou and sorry to hear your news.

I know of a few ladies who have had your diagnosis and are now fit and well and I hope that will be true for you too.

Others will soon be along to offer help and advice so take heart.

Sending hugs and best wishes.

So very sorry it wasn't the news you were hoping  for.
I have 2 friends who have been through breast cancer in the last few years - both picked up on a routine mammogram. One had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy, the other  ops and chemo.
Both are back at work and doing well.
Hopefully, your oncologist will help you to feel more in control of things.

So sorry to hear that. A very worrying time for you. My best friend had BC five years ago and had lumpectomy and radiotherapy. She is doing fine.
My mum had mastectomy at 48 and went on to live to 85. Many positive outcomes to this horrid disease.
All the best to you.

How frightening for you , I think we all dread it happening.  Hopefully you will find some ladies who have been through it as they will know exactly how you feel.  Its very hard for the families too so sending lots of positive thoughts.

Hi LindyLouLou
So sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Do let us know how you get on with the oncologist and how they are going to treat you.
I haven't had breast cancer but I know 3 ladies I am close to who have - so whilst I can't relate from personal experience I hope I can empathise - I'm sure you must feel terrified, I certainly would be.  2 of my friends had very early stages with minimal treatment, they sailed through easily and are now fine.  The 3rd lady had an aggressive form of cancer that required the mastectomy, chemo and radio therapy - she went through all this in about a year and is now back to normal and really enjoying life - she recently had an appointment about reconstruction - she's quite excited about having this done - she lost one breast but they've promised to do work on both breasts to make them look gorgeous and matching!!!! She coped extremely well with the treatment and wasn't sick once.  Yes she still gets a bit tired so it takes time to regain the strength and energy again but I have to say she looks amazing and she is so positive and open about everything. Just before she was diagnosed she discovered her husband was having an affair with a women in her 20s and she is now going through a horrid divorce - she has been such a good friend to me over the years but we live 2 hours travel apart now so I don't see her as often as I would like.
It does seem that they are really good at treating breast cancer these days, talking with my friend (who had the aggressive cancer) was actually rather reassuring.  Hopefully you will be allocated a support nurse and it might well be worth contacting the charities like Macmillan or Breast cancer support: http://www.breastcancercare.org.uk
Just as we are all supporting one another here on MM over our challenges with the meno and finding out as much as we can about how we can help ourselves, I think it is very important to do the same with any illness, particularly cancer.
Do keep us posted.  DG x

Yep.  Yep.  Yep >wave<

In 1994 I felt a lump above the R nipple, knew immediately it shouldn't be there.  Initially the Surgeon told me it was non-sinister so I underwent lumpectomy the following June.  At histology it was found that there were 'changes' in the margins so he took a 'scrape' the next week to clear out any cells left behind, removed some lymph glands - clear - and once the wound had healed - about 5-6 weeks: I had precautionary radiation therapy for 4 weeks.

At no time did I feel that I was being rushed into any treatment regime that I wasn't happy with.  I did feel though that once radiation began, I was scaring off the cancer  ::)   Still here !

It is important to make a list of your worries however small they seem to you and discuss.  Don't let the Consultant hurry you and you should be allocated a Breast Care Nurse.  Someone you can talk to in between appts..  Find out which 'type' of cancer you have been diagnosed with and what care route the Consultant suggests.  Make notes!

The Conslutant should send a letter to your GP so you have another route for discussion.

Mum had mastectomy after routine mammogram at 65.  Still here at 88 but her cancer was different to the 1 with which I was diagnosed.

Sorry to hear this news :(

The odds are with you for recovery.  As a nurse once said to me: we are lousy at preventing breast cancer but fabulous at treating it.

I recoommend you go to www.breastcancer.org, look for the  "discussion boards" and tell them whatever you know about your diagnosis.  They are brilliant and you will have a ton of support amd information.

Hang in there and you will feel much better once you have a treatment plan in place.

Oh Lindyloulou - I missed this news and I'm so sorry to hear this and just wanted to give my support nad best wishes to you.

Just to echo what has been said and having just had a mammogram, I would take heart from the statistics in the leaflet that some women are diagnosed and treated for breast cnacer that would never become life-threatening and others have lives that are saved by the diagnosis and treatment because it has been found at such an early stage - so the odds are very high for a complete recovery.

I can imagine how devastated you must feel and I know that other women who have had similar experiences will be able to share these with you.
