Ladies who have had success with hrt need your wisdom
« on: January 30, 2015, 09:01:57 PM »

I have started hrt. My physical symptoms had mostly subsided apart from some nausea, diarrhoea and strange skin sensations along with sleep disturbance. I want to know out of interest how long it took for your physical and emotional symptoms to improve. I'm only on the patch three weeks and whilst my sleep has improved I still feel mad as a hatter!

Early days Alua197. It can take some time for the oestrogen to build up in your body and work it's magic. I can't remember what HRT or dosage you are on but while the physical symptoms usually subside within 3-6 weeks, the emotional side can take some time.
I find it is the lack of sleep that really effects my mental state, so until your are getting consistent quality sleep for some weeks you may not fully feel the benefits. I'm afraid those women with extreme anxiety sometimes need an SSRI alongside HRT to really keep all meno symptoms under control but I think you just need to be patient.
One day at a time - be patient - practise some Mindful Meditation and take some brisk walks. You are on the right road.  DG x

Hi

I would say it took me about 3 months but for crying etc it wasn't as long.

Keep going you will get there!

I agree with Smokey - at least three months (I'd originally assumed  three days and then got very upset/stressed because I thought it wasn't working!  ::)). Even now, there are days when I have a real wobble (usually when my own hormones are fluctuating rather than low); HRT's not the perfect cure for a lot of us on here (though it is for a lucky minority). However, you will hopefully  find that the balance gradually tips and the good days out-number the worse   x

Agree with others. Try and give it three months and then review how you're feeling.

Hi

for me it was 6 months+ before I was not having to play "hunt the toilet stop" when out and about.

I was not allowed to go conti as I had not quite managed the whole year.

Going back to a regularly monthly cycle was enforced as doc would not allow me a 3 month cycle HRT :(

A few of the earlier periods were "heavy" and longer than normal. A few of them were painful too.
Periods calmed down for me after 3rd month on hrt :) thanks goodness

Mood was calmer even after the first month.
However I had a few weepy moments in the first month as HRT kicked in.
Not had that since first month.
How long did you wait to go onto HRT?
And are you on sequi or conti option?

It's been a year of hell symptoms and being told too young. Specialist did suggest because it's been left so long it would take longer to feel better. I will be on sequi but first 8 weeks just Estrogen then will cycle in utrogestan

Peegeetip, I have to thank you for keeping me going when I was about to give up. One particular post of yours really made me realise I was being impatient and unrealistic. You put things into perspective, told me how it was, and basically made me feel guilty for wanting to rip up the patches after only weeks. Very, very grateful to you  ;) xxxx

So I have been taking my 100mcg patch for a month now. Okay I have had a few okay days but they are few and far between. I have had the urge to cry all the time the entire last month whilst on this hrt. Okay I have been sleeping okay that's a plus. No period since being on it. Then yesterday had the worst day I can remember in months. Today I took the patch off for a few hours but have stuck it back on. So many what ifs racing through my head such as the dose is too high for me. I'm even more tired than I was before. I know I'm rambling here sorry. I have lived with the most horrific symptoms for a year now I just want to be relieved from this torture and feel like myself again. I've had some glimpses of the old me the past month but not nearly enough. Like so many on here I am so desperate to feel good and I have a day like yesterday and feel like I'm going backwards!

Hi

Sorry to hear your struggling, I tried numerous hrt preps, and now off completely, some of them I really didn't give a chance due to side effects, and wanting immediate relief so I would advise you to stick with it it's helped lots of ladies feel much better so hopefully it will work for you too / good luck xx

Hi Alua I am like you and want to feel better yesterday. I have just started taking Femoston, just over a week ago and most of my symptoms have got worse. I had an awful day on Friday and cried most of the day. However the ladies on here advised me that sometimes it can take upto 3 months for our bodies to settle and we do need to be patient. I actually had a good day mentally, yesterday with no real anxiety, but none of my physical symptoms have not eased off at all, these I could deal with anyway, it's the anxiety and panic attacks that drive me to take HRT.
I know it's so hard when we feel really low, but I for one have set myself the 3 month target and by then, if I don't feel any better, I will either give it up completely and try something else, natural, or try a different HRT.

Hi

I would say that 3 months is on the early side for adjustment to a new HRT.
If you use the 3 months figure then you might end up like others and changing through various options.

As posted earlier 6 months is a more real world figure for your body to get used to your HRT and feel the benefits.

HRT didnt work for me until I went upto 75mcg patches and then it took weeks to kick in and reduce flushes. I say reduce because I still get some, but nowhere near as bad, and I know I can go upto 100mcg if I want.
I do get morning dread some mornings and feel pi$$ed off a lot, but I don't know if that is hormonal or circumstantial.
I hope it's hormonal because then, I am not really doomed.
A month is not long enough to be able to know if a hrt is working.

Hello ladies
I have been reading or at least trying to find posts typically dealing with menopause nausea. I have been suffering with this for 10 months now and 4times previous in my life whenever hormones where involved, ie puberty, pregnancy and peri.  I have just started hrt, only 10 days, and haven't noticed ant change, some days my symptoms seem far worse. I'd say my story mimics that of Bomber's with all the testings done and ill feelings. I guess what I'm wondering is how you are feeling now and if you had any advice for one just starting out. What a terrible road to travel but am hoping there are brighter days ahead. Thanks ladies
