Little habits or foibles
« on: January 27, 2015, 08:54:35 PM »

Hope it's not just me... ::)

Do you have things that you like to be just right.....the perfect cup....the same thing at the same time.

Me its cups ..certain cups for drinks. I hate a thick mug. I have my favourite China mug for breakfast tea. A different one for afternoon tea.....glass one ...and a floral one for my red bush tea at night.
I am brewing my red bush now and had to search for my evening mug.

Please please tell me its not just me  ;D.

>phew< ……….. same here

I only drink 'pop' from certain glasses in the cupboard particularly if I'm feeling delicate.  Only certain mugs for a cuppa. Certain glass ware for my milk shake in the evening.

I like room on my plate for grub, hate it if we eat 'out' - the other day the meal was served on a teak board with no room to push my food in order to cut it - I like room!

I have to have a Very Large Towel after my bath, preferably warmed  ;)
Certain socks with my walking shoes
Only comfy pants which seem to be getting bigger each year  :o  :-X

Most importantly: clean crocks are washed first in the sink followed by ……. and the very last things to go in are knives etc. that have touched raw meat, poultry or fish ………… otherwise  :bang: :bang: :bang:

Toilet paper has to face outwards and hangers all have to face inwards. Very sad.

I am a Starbucks addict (I know - but it's my one vice - I don't drink or smoke!!) - the logo on the cup sleeve MUST be lined up with the logo on the cup, and the hole in the lid through which you drink must be lined up with the logos!  So the first thing I have to do once I've collected my drink from the counter is straighten it all up.

My only obsession is the undersheet on the bed - it has to be completely wrinkle free before I get in - "no ruckles" I've always said but my hubby had never heard this expression until he met me - and still teases me about it to this day!

Ruckles is a common word here ........

Oh, had forgotten about which way the loo paper hangs.  When Dad was alive it had to face outwards, I notice that Mum now has it the other way  ::) - a silent act of difiance?

Big pottery mug first thing. Bone china with elevenses. Woe betide anyone who uses my dedicated mug at work! Small mug at bedtime. All the cups go back in the same spot in the cupboard. That's just for starters! I have to do everything at the same time each day. Particular days are nominated for certain tasks. Toilet paper facing outwards - tick. Hangers facing inwards - tick. Cushions on the sofa in a particular order. Everything has it's place and I can't go out or go to bed unless everywhere is tidy. Oh no - someone's parked in 'my' parking space on the road outside my house!

I think these fall under the current popular term 'first world problems'!  ::)

But seriously it's probably more about routine helping us to feel in control?

OCD isn't far behind  ::) ........    my sink routine is for hygiene reasons.  Many years ago his mother stayed here occasionally and 'to help' would wash up.  NOOOOO get out of my sink  >:(:bang:    1 morning, having told her not to wash up the previous night, I came down to find it done.  However: as she had the habit of mixing crocks I didn't know if the meat boards/knives had been washed in the right order, nor which cloths had been used - so I had to do the whole lot again with new cloths and boiling water  :-\  It was a Good Job that she didn't wander in and say 'I did your washing up for you'  :( she went home the next day.

The kitchen is my domain. I decide where things go. I have to button it when my lovely, enthusiastic DIL stays and takes over the kitchen. I remind myself it doesn't matter. I believe I have OCD tendencies, but when it was really a problem, the condition didn't have a name. It's there in the background, but I have tried not to let it affect my family too much. It was mums a bit fussy, so we'll let her get on with it. I don't know what normal. I suppose it's when it stops you doing the things you want to do, it's not in the realms of normality. Anyway, my daughter tells me being normal is boring! ::)

Sounds as if we all have a few interesting habits  ;D

I have so many more apart from cups.....towels are a bit of obsession too. They have to be fresh every other day and hung a certain way  ::)

When hanging washing outside socks in pairs, all his pants together, all mine, t shirts together etc. However I stop short of colour coding it all.  ;D Heard of someone who did that.
