I've never been troubled by it CLKD but I know crossing the Bay of Biscay can sometimes be a problem - I have never done that though  ;)

Oh do be careful CLKD ;D  I think my sister gets the telegraph so I will ask her, thank you

Thanks Judith, all very helpful info.
We live in the south east. The 2 night taster sounds a good idea, but would involve quite a bit of travel for us
Which ship did you do the fjords with? I am getting myself confused with what each one has to offer re cabins, restaurants etc. We are very private and shy about mixing, I can imagine we will stay in the cabin all day!!
Also, each one seems to visit different places, how do I know which is best for the scenery of the fjords?
Did you have a balcony - concerned about being claustrophobic (sp?)
Are you accompanied offshore? I would worry about getting lost and left behind :-\
What time of year did you go?
If it is full board, does this include all the restaurants?
I will have a look at the iglucruise website, thanks for the link

Where is the Bay of Biscay ??? No where near the fjords I hope. Useless at Geography ;D

Thank you! x x

We did the Fjords on P & O for my 50th - cannot recommend it more highly.Have done lots more cruises around the Mediterranean but the Fjords always stands out as being the extra special one.

Remember to check out trip advisor before you decide and book.

I just had to phone my brother to remind me which ship we had gone on - meno brain! He was no better, he thinks it was the Azura but it could have been the Ventura, we were a large family party. The new ship, The Britannia, the one that I sent you the link to, has exactly the same itinerary and ports of call, Olsen, Bergen, Flam and Stavanger.

It is nice to have a balcony but if you are on a limited budget an inside cabin is OK as you really don't spend too much time in your cabin. There is plenty to do in the evenings, but you can also be as private as you like. The P&O ships are really nice, they are very traditional and serve proper afternoon tea in the restaurant.

If you go on an excursion from the ship you are always accompanied but on the fjords cruises you come straight into the town and can walk off the ship into the villages, we did a mountain railway trip from Flam that was very nice but we didn't book it through the ship as it was more expensive that way.

Everything is included apart from drinks and some of the coffee shops.

The Bay of Biscay is near Spain, nowhere near The Fjords  :)

I think the best thing to do is check out the websites, particularly and videos they may have, but also get lots of brochures.  You can then sit down with you husband and a cup of coffee and decide what you like best.  There is such a difference in ships, destinations, itineraries, and ethos from the different cruise companies you need a big overview to choose what suits you best.

I don't think you will be spending very much time in your cabin.  There is so much of interest, both on the ship and the views.

Beware the food.  It just keeps coming.

Purplenanny, not much left to say that hasn't already been covered, but we have been on many many cruises and the first cruise we went on, my hubby did NOT want to go, he said he would hate it.......but he LOVED cruising.
So all I can add is....GO, try it and have a wonderful time. ⚓️👍

Hi Purplenanny, We went on the Oceana and no we never have a balcony as we aren't in the cabin long enough to justify the extra cost.We have been on the Oriana and Azura but most times on the Oceana ...love cruising x

Another thumbs up for P&O from me as well. Our first cruise was on Oriana to the Fjords and we have become hooked after that.

If your husband is unhappy about dining with others, it may be better for you to opt for Freeom Dining which means you can turn up at the restaurant at any time and ask for a table for two. There are also speciality restaurants where you can eat paying a bit extra or you can go into the Buffet restaurant - or yes, you can eat in your cabin.

Oriana is a medium sized traditional ship - carries about 1800 passengers and is adult only. She is very spacious and elegant - and I would say, homely!

See the P&O website to see the video tours of all the ships. Also on their site and on Facebook I see that they are offering day guided visits to the ships at ther moment incl lunch for £25 pp. We did this before we cruised and it is a really good idea to see if you like being on a ship before you commit.

I have never had a balcony, but have had an Inside cabin and Outsides. If you are claustrophobic, I would suggest you did not choose an Inside. I find that I need a window!

The most stable parts of a ship are in the middle (Midship) and on low decks, but these ships are very stable and sea worthy and we hardly noticed movement most of the time.

The Fjords are amazing and so beautiful. A great choice. The ports are small, so you won't get lost. We went to Geiranger, Stavanger, Bergen and Olden.

I would suggest you give P&O a ring - the number on their website, or ask for a callback and explain it's a first. They are very very helpful. And see if you can get on a day visit!!

I wouldn't like an internal cabin - no windows  :-\ …. even if I wasn't eating watching the scenery drifting by would be nice.

Quite so CLKD, definitely won't be an internal cabin

You have all been so helpful (as always) and I really appreciate all the info you have provided me with. The websites are all a bit overwhelming for me.

The detail on the decks, cabins, excursions, restaurants, and which ship, all so helpful :thankyou:

Love the idea of the day visit scriv, but it is a bit too far to travel :( . We would definitely do this if nearer.

Hubby doesn't get involved with the searching and booking as it makes him anxious, so it is great to be able to discuss it with you all, especially having the first hand experience. I really am getting a little bit excited now! But also a bit nervous having not been away for so long.

Oh sorry! another question - is there a best time of year for going? Thank you x x
