Off HRT Feeling horrendous
« on: January 09, 2015, 05:39:28 PM »

Hi

Been off Estradot patches since Wednesday evening, today feeling awful, Ive had terrible fatigue for over a week and I don't know if that's the combination of recovering from cold/cough, lack of sleep and the effects of the Ultorgestan I was taking for a few nights, but Im still v v tired today and achy not sure if coming off the hrt is doing this or not.

Ive also put on so much weight since stopping exercise and snacking to stop me feeling fainty, plus hrt doesn't help, I need to sort this somehow, find something to suit me, start excercising again when I have my heart tested, today I feel like crying, sending hugs to all other ladies feeling the same xx

Have you read your previous threads?  I suggest you review and read the responses you have received, you may see that there is a pattern to your symptoms, your responses to the replies from ladies here, your behaviour: nothing works immediately. Your GP may well reconsider what you have taken/not …….. and be able to help *but* if you don't give medication a 'try' then you will go round in circles.  I remember wanting a cure yesterday but it took 3 years to find an AD which suited me ……. only you can decide ……..

if you read your threads and make notes about your symptoms and how you reacted to the various medications, you will at least have something to discuss with your GP.  You are lucky to get an appt so quickly!

I think that unless you are prepared to try the HRT for at least three months then it is better for you to try without it for a while. It can't be doing you any good starting and stopping - although I appreciate that the side effects aren't good but most of us have to tolerate them while the body is getting used to a new level of hormones. What symptoms were you hoping to relieve with HRT?

It takes a little while before HRT leaves your system. I think it's perhaps your anxiety again.

As CLKD says if you have a read back at your previous posts there is a pattern here.

I understand that it's not easy but you have changed so many times I'm sure your body and hormones have not got a clue whether they are coming or going.

Wait until you have had all your tests done and then asses things with the information you have and then decide what to do next.

Karenja - Like the others have said, read your previous posts.
You have to give things time to work.
That includes coming off HRT.
There are no quick fixes.

Karenja, once you've had your heart checked, if you want to get back to your confidence before exercising in a gym/classes/outside, you could try what my mum has done. She has gone from a size 22 to a 14/16 by buying a second hand exercise bike and sitting listening to the radio or reading a magazine as she pedals for 45 mins most days.  She has not eaten any less. Ideally, you'd probably be better off doing something more social for exercise, but if you feel nervous about leaving the house, this is a great starting point. Good luck x

karenja - It sounds to me as though you have post viral fatigue.  I've thought all along that you were blaming Utrogestan for the way you were feeling when there were other things going on.  Carrying all that extra weight is tiring and the less exercise you take the more lethargic your become.
I think you were expecting too much from HRT.
Get into a good routine - I find this really helps when I am recovering from a nasty virus. Eat regular small meals and get out for a walk each day.  I simply stopped buying any biscuits, cakes or chocolate about a year ago and feel so much better. Do take a good multivitamin, Vitamin D3 and some Omega 3.
Read funny books, watch films like 'It's a Wonderful Life', join a yoga class - do positive things.
It is so easy to get stuck in a negative spiral that drags you down.  You can turn this around - so be kind to yourself and take positive baby steps and don't expect things to improve quickly.
Good luck  Dg x

Hi again

yes the cardiologist suggested when Ive had the exercise ecg and that's ok (which it will be) then I need to do yoga or something (which Ive taled about before and haven't done), and any other exercise that ive stopped doing, Ive started today rather than have a buttery biscuit with my tea had an m and s fibre biscuits with sultanas, followed by porridge instead of sugary nutty cereal, with soya milk, im going to start positive steps now, day three starting off hrt, may take a starflower tablet Im sure they are for hormones, thinking positive x

Starflower is good but it's worth getting the Omega 3 and the Vitamin D.  Vitamin D is now known to be a vital element to have, as in winter we get little if any as the main source of Vitamin D in sunlight!!!  You can get Vit D3 quite cheaply from chemists and health food stores.
Here is just one site that can give you info about Vit D
http://www.patient.co.uk/health/vitamin-d-deficiency-including-osteomalacia-and-rickets-leaflet.

Keep a food/mood journal!  That way you can see how you feel and why - my guide is 1-5 1 being aware of anxiety, 5 being grabbing the medication.  I have it on the calendar for reference.

Be kind to you.  Did you sleep last night?  I am sure that your heart will be fine, maybe your GP could refer you to a dietician? or have a chat with a 'trainer' in your local leisure centre.  Our LA have 'walk for Life' 20 min strolls led by a trained leader, also there are volunteer bureuas across our County which may be worth a look at if your LA has them.

It's the 'wrong' time of year for changes  ::) - grey days, cold, wet, damp - so eat little and often, keep well hydrated - housework is a good place to begin exercise, cheaper than the gym   ;)

I know how you feel about the weight issue.  My body fat is 36.5%, so we are pretty much the same.  I am starting a healthy eating and exercise regime tomorrow.  Do it with me, we can support each other :)
