Hi from a Newbie
« on: January 05, 2015, 01:06:04 PM »

Hi all, I came across this site after googling for info on the menopause. I've been told by my doctor that i'm probably starting the menopause (I'm 50) My periods are all over the place, sometimes missing a period and then bleeding for almost 4 weeks at a time!!
But what is really bothering me is that the last couple of days i have been really sore down below. I'm very inflamed and at times i feel like i am on fire!! Is this normal and do i need to seek medical help for it? I've had problems with palpitations in the past but these seem to be getting more frequent
I would like to point out that my doc never did a blood test to see if it is the menopause, but went solely on my periods being so erratic.
Thanks for any help you can give me ???

:welcomemm:  if you are bleeding a lot then this can cause soreness - I had this as I had to use pads for several days at a time.

Blood tests are reliably unreliable  ::) so going on symptoms is probably the quickest way to get treatment.  My periods became irratic at age 47 for a couple of years then stopped.

Palpitations are 'common' too ……. have a read of the menus left of screen, have a look at other threads by using the 'search' button and ask away!  >wave<

Thanks and Hi CLKD. I haven't bled for a few weeks now, but i do have to wear towels all the time because i seem to have developed a weak bladder  :-[ I thought it was because i'd had a bad chest so was coughing alot, but that's all cleared up and I'm still having to wear them. It's so embarrassing
I'll do as you suggest and take a look at the threads  :)

HORMONES  >:( ……… can cause laxity of ligaments.  Also, at this time of Life we can develop vaginal atrophy which for me, presented initially with repeated bladder 'infections'.  The tissue becomes thin 'down there' which gets rubbed and sore = infection possibility.  Have a chat with your Practice Nurse about VA - some ladies find Vagifem helps, I am on a different pessary used every 3/4 nights ….. really does help as the preparation replaces the oestrogen being lost and plumps up the vagina.

There are many types of useful pads on the market these days: apparently  ::) : so have a shifty along the shelves to see what will suit, perhaps a thinner/narrower pad?

I'm sure someone else will be along during the day!
