Anxiety
« on: January 01, 2015, 10:01:56 AM »

I wanted to start the new year with a new outlook, but I am feeling so anxious today.  I don't know why, have nothing planned for today.  I am on day 5 of my period, not sure what hormones would be in play at the moment.  I just know I am sick of this anxiety.  Am so fed up with this, I just want to feel normal, nothing special, just normal.

Thanks for your replies, helps to know I am not alone.  I have read that the rise in estrogen can cause anxiety to those sensitive to it, maybe my estrogen is rising.  Its the worst feeling, so unsettling.

A good source of info about estrogen and its effect, well worth a read.

Thanks for the link, silverlady. I now know that I definitely have low estrogen - I have almost every symptom listed there.

Hello toffeecushion and sending you hugs.

I also deal with the dreaded anxiety. I tend to have surges that are worse in the morning, in fact I'm sure it is the adrenaline that is waking me up and the same thing happens after a nap. During the summer it was horrible and would take my breath away but it is less intense now.

I often wonder if the menopause journey consists of a series of phases that we pass through as our bodies adjust to new hormonal levels. I recall having headaches all day every day for six months that then disappeared and have never returned so with any luck the anxiety will fit the same pattern and eventually reduce. We live in hope !

Take care and wishing you well.

Kathleen,

I am just the same - the anxiety is definitely worse in the morning.  I think you might have something with the phases, a while ago I was having headaches on most days and they were horrible ones.  Now I get one or two a month.  Wonder what's in store next?

Really feel for you Toffee Cushion, big hugs! I too noticed things getting worse at the end of my last period and remember others agreeing they had experienced it. I guess it must be fluctuating hormones as opposed to low estrogen, since levels should be beginning to rise by the end of the period?  Mine then all settled til last night/today when I started feeling 'weird'. Can't really put it into words, bit tingly in my hand, bit headachey/dizzy, anxious for no reason, can feel my heart beating right through my body. I  just want to be on my own or asleep. Can't concentrate on anything . Trying hard to hide it from my family for fear of being called a hypochondriac . It's so weird how you can go from feeling totally normal to a wreck in a matter of hours, isn't it? Hope you're feeling a bit better by the time you read these posts  :)
Xxxx

Ps Great link silverlady, thank you  :) My only problem is I seem to have symptoms on both lists. Anyone else?!!

Briony,

Exactly how I feel, I felt fine when I first got up and then for no reason all the symptoms you have described.  The anxiety has eased a little as the day has gone on but I have had a couple of fluttery heart moments and they really freak me out.  I felt hot and sweaty after the palpitations but not sure if it was because I was scared and panicky or if it was a hot flush.

I am on day 5 of my period and have started taking samples of my saliva for testing.  I've done two and have another ten to do through out the month.  Just want to get to the bottom of it.

I think my family are tired of me complaining, it's something every day with me.  I try not to say anything to them but you need to talk to someone.  I just want to sit in a corner and cry at times.

How are you getting on?

Bless you toffeecushion. I could have written your post. I can never decide if the physical symptoms bring on my anxiety or whether the anxiety causes the physical symptoms, but either way, it's pants. Like you, I hate the way you just don't know when it'll strike - makes me not want to plan anything in advance . Am becoming a right recluse!

More positively, since month two of HRT, the more normal days have outweighed the hormonal ones, which is good news. My problem seems to be when my own cycle clashes with the HRT ... That's when the crashing fatigue, headaches, anxiety etc  all kick in. My doc has suggested I try Qlaira as it'll suppress my own cycle (unlike HRT) but I have decided to give the HRT three months trial at least. Do let me know how you get on with your saliva tests . Hang in there xxxx
