Should these ease during a period?  Mine seem to have increased.

If it's a normal period and not an HRT-controlled one then for some women the flushes stop about ten days or so before the period. It's the body's way of trying to get an egg to release/ripen so once this has happened the flushes stop. For some women the periods make no difference to the flushes.

My period started yesterday, one day late, but natural and I had more flushes yesterday.

Sounds like you are one whose flushes don't relate to periods toffeecushion!
