Anyone Else?
« on: December 14, 2014, 03:23:41 PM »

We go away for 4 nights tomorrow.  Our two grown up boys are coming with us and I have been really looking forward to it, but now I am feeling stressed about it.  we are going to Disneyland Paris and I love it there, but I am worried I will ruin the holiday by being anxious all the time and not wanting to do anything.

Anyone else love the planning and looks forward to going but has it all ruined by stress?

Hi toffee cushion

Yes I do get anxious more lately but my 17 year old son is enough to make me anxious and worry about things that might happen so I know what your going through it must be the meno but try not to stress too much and spoil it in Paris once you are there you will love it been to Florida so know you will so enjoy it with your boys while they still want to do things with you

Bon voyage

Poor you toffeecushion.  I sometimes get very anxious about travelling, but not full blown anxiety. Or at least not what GP recognises as full blown. Mine is situational anxiety. However, I'm usually fine once I've arrived at my destination.  I can plan & organise no problem.

I do hope you manage to enjoy yourself. Not been to Disneyland, but a few times to Disneyworld  in Florida.   You know you enjoy it, you'll have fun I'm sure.

Thanks for your reply.  We did Florida last Christmas, but the way I feel at the moment I don't think I would cope with flying and being that far away from home, so have settled for Paris.  Am sure I will enjoy it when I am there, but the build up these last couple of days have been quite bad.

You're right, it's not full blown anxiety, but enough to make me panic that it will be full blown and I won't be able to cope.  I am sure I will be fine once I am there but the build up is awful.  And who knows might even meet Olaf  ;D

I'm sure you will! Have a wonderful time!  Son's GF going at end of January with her sister for 4 nights. She's desperate to introduce her sister to Disney!  ;D

Yep.  I always worry ………. and worry can start weeks prior to an event  :'(
I use Valium or other short-term anti-anxiety medication.  Rescue remedy.  Deep breathing.

Have you talked to your family?  Often if I tell DH that I'm anxious he will hep me with coping strategies rather than worrying on my own.

The anxiety has definitely been building up.  My husband knows and is very good, but he can't understand what it feels like.  Wish I could be normal, anxiety has taken so much from me and my family.

Yep.  Same here  :'( ……… so long as you don't feel pressured to do stuff once you arrive.  Where are you staying, on site?

My husband can't understand why I get anxious at all. Asks " What do you have to be anxious about?" I wish I knew! Can't help it, it just happens.

Yes we re staying on site, so no traveling once we are there.  But they want to go into Paris one evening, think I will find that difficult but it is only once.

:-X …….. I had that response to depression - 'what have *you* got to be depressed about?' - well, to start with, being depressed  :-\

I can expect to be anxious and it don't happen; I can look forwards to an event and that will trigger it long before <sigh>; I always want to get the holiday over, get home, then I know if I've been OK!  :big hug:

Do you need to go into Paris?  If it's too much, say so! maybe tonight so that your 'boys' can perhaps plan stuff that you wouldn't want to do  ;) …….. that way you can have a deep bath, nibble some biscuits [take some with you]; practice your French on local TV station …….. your rest time is important too!

nibble some biscuits [take some with you]; !

It's funny you said that.  I have already packed a couple of packets and some muesli bars just in case  :)  Everyone thinks I am mad - then again maybe they are right

try and nibble before you get hungry - to stop any anxiety surges or that drop in the stomach
