Ovulating after 19 months meno?
« on: December 08, 2014, 08:41:52 AM »

Hi everyone...woke up yesterday to what felt like ovulation pains I used to get before meno and now this morning I have the clear watery discharge that accompanied ovulating.
I dare say I'll know in a week or so if a period shows but I assumed having been this long period free (19 months now) this was over?
Has anyone any advice? Should I just wait and see? Maybe "phantom" ovulation? I've also noticed I've been flush free for the last 3 weeks having had these alongside night sweats for the last year😱😱😱
I used to get tender breasts around this time too but haven't this time...

Can anyone help?

I went 11 months and then had this. It heralded the start of a return to periods and yes night sweats have abated. Do you have stretchy mucus as this indicates high oestrogen? I have this and days of watery discharge as well. I have been having periods since June again all be it less often than monthly.

I guess you will soon know, but guidelines say that any bleeding after one year will need a check up just to make sure all is well.

Thanks Machair...yes it's stretchy..
I may have to wait and see if I get a period again and then maybe a visit to GP as you say to be on the safe side.
Can't believe this... I was sure it was the end of the road for periods but the pleasures of menopause eh? 😁😁😁

I have to say I was mortified when mine came back as I was convinced it was all over for ever.

The real thing I noticed was that I started sleeping again and not having the sweats all night a couple of weeks before I first saw the watery discharge. The sweats haven't returned in 6 months and the periods continue. How old are you?- I am 55 in March- that is why I had hoped it was the end!

Hi spider

Yes it does depend on how old you are and whether you get a bleed as Machair says, as to whether you go to the doc - so definitely if you get a bleed. However the sudden demise of flushes and sweats is a sure sign of an increase in oestrogen which can only be a good thing   :)

Thanks Machair and Hurdity..I'm 50 so certainly menopausal as per GP and fact that my last period was so long ago.

Still no sweats but now I'm worried I might get a bleed...no doubt there's a surge of oestrogen again as my boobs are now achy today too 😁😁😳

Time will tell.....thanks for being here to listen/support guys x

I think it is said that under 50 you should use contraception for two years after your last period to be safe. This highlights the reason why as you never know :)

I went 11 months at the age of 53/54 and then unexpectedly have returned to having periods, so I was just inside the 12 months they say you should wait before stopping contraception after 50.

There is no exact science but they use the 12 month rule for investigating bleeding to make sure that no one slips through the net who may have something serious. You have signs of hormonal activity so it is unlikely to be anything else if you do bleed, but after 19 months I would get checked out to be safe.

As expected Hurdity and Machair...I've had a period..."just like the ones I used to know" -  :-X
Now I need to wait for GPs surgery to re open and get an appointment - can't believe this though I have still been sleeping well and no nightsweats/flushes - I can even blow dry my hair without having full blown panic and literally meltdown ::)
Now I'm just worried might be something else but re assured given no sweats and mood seems happier than it has been in a long time x

This sounds so much like hormones as the same thing happened to me but just inside the 12 months.Thinking of you as I know it is horrid having to visit the GP. I am sure you will be fine.x
