newbie looking for old me back please
« on: December 04, 2014, 07:21:55 PM »

Hello all, I've been looking to this site for much needed reassurance for a few months now. You're all so fab, you feel like old friends though I've never posted till now. Back in April I started having awful nausea and tummy pain the day after my period. I suspected hormones as periods lighter and unreliable. Had fsh tested, came back 76, so doc said i prob was peri, though still had many tests, including endoscopy, bloods, pelvic scan, with me becoming more and more anxious with each test. After another horrible stomach bout in July, again straight after period, and having had few well days in between, then night sweats, fatigue, heart palpitations, headaches, every blooming thing hit at once. Docs finally seemed to accept i was peri(wish they were more up to date withmenopause)I reluctantly went onto hrt patches. Had three months on patches and eventually started to feel  better. Sadly I couldn't get on with patches due to rashes & trouble keeping them on so five weeks ago went onto femoston 1/10 tablets. Was a little worried the dose was lower than patch but doc wanted to try low dose first. So now here I am back where I started in April with horrible all day nausea that only goes in the evening, anxiety awful again and I feel terrible  :'( have moved up to femoston 2/10 as of yesterday as obviously need the higher dose. Didn't have any period on 1/10, think that's why anxiety back as well as dip in hormones on new tablet. I just want to be me again, fun mum, wife, daughter, employee not be this paranoid hormonal mess. Sorry for going on!  ::) hugs to all x

Hi and welcome to MM jedigirl
Femoston is a good HRT as it has a kinder progesterone so is well tolerated by many.
It does sound as though you needed a higher dose so hopefully the 2/10 Femoston will do the trick.
Do read up all the stuff under the headings to the left of this screen - it's good to get clued up.

I'd get the nausea thing checked at the doctor.  This may not be anything to do with hormones. Do you eat regularly? have you tried some Pepto Bismol? How is your digestive system generally?
I had 2 weeks of nausea recently and it was definitely a tummy bug that was going round - I asked my GP about it and she said there were some nasty viruses about at the moment.
I think we are very quick to blame hormones and/or HRT fro symptoms that emerge when they are often viral.

Thanks dancing girl, I often get nauseous when anxious or hormones up and down. It usually settles through the day.  Appetite suffers when I'm like this but can usually eat by evening when it seems to ease.  I've had loads of tests, including endoscopy with biopsies, pelvic and stomach scan, cut scan. Everything fine, I just seem to react this way when hormones dodgy. I'm not very big and seem to be super sensitive to changes. :-\ what stage are you at in menopause?

Jedigirl - I could have written your message.  Also, I suffer with dry retching when very nervous or when I'm in a situation I can't get out of + shaking, nausea, unable to face food at all.

Hormone levels can make us more nauseous.  How were you doing your regular periods, was it something you suffered with?  Ginger biscuits can ease symptoms.

Thank you clkd, its very reassuring to know someone else has same woes though I feel for you too. My periods before all this were fairly normal but in the past year became much lighter, Then had a gap of 3 months ,then spaced out but never heavy or particularly bothersome. I wish I could get on top of it all. Had to come home from work today felt so awful, shaky and needing loo all the time. Reminds me is when I had early pregnancy sickness, same feeling but with anxiety thrown in for good measure!  Does your nausea get better through the day?

Yep.  In the mornings the anxiety induced nausea is awful because I know I have to eat during the day - even though logically when I eat I feel better.  By evening I am usually OK.

Your GP may be able to give you an anti-sickness drug [name escapes me  ::) ] for you take as necessary.  I have used anti-sickness travel tablets [Kwells] but they make me tired.

What did you need the loo for?  If you have 'urine' urgency then maybe you require treatment for vaginal atrophy which can present as infection-type symptoms.  This is another problem which can be controlled and better treated before rather than after - I had razor blades up there  >:( [there's a good thread on VA or my own 'my bladder' thread].

Were you nauseous before your periods?

Clkd, morning anxiety seems more common than we realise doesn't it. I can usually manage the nausea quite well but changing hrt has put it in a spin again. I find a few things help;
Meditation for anxiety, though the last four times I fell asleep 10 minutes in and have yet to get into the mountain cabin I'm meant to be visualising!
When I can't eat at all I have meal replacement drinks, takes the stress of worrying about nutrition away and keeps my energy up.
I take liquid magnesium for sleeping and anxiety, seems to help a bit. I have taken the odd
benadryl tablet for anxiety as they take the edge off .
Best of all I have a fantastic counsellor who specialises in hormonal problems and can always explain what is happening to me and why. She does reflexology on my feet while we talk which is lovely and calming. Saw her this evening and she recommended putting some peeled ginger root in hot water with honey as a drink for nausea, worth a try.
I never suffered with nausea linked to hormones before except in pregnancy and when very anxious. I'm glad you get some respite on an evening too, we have to enjoy the calmer times.
Thank you for your replies , its great to chat xx

Also the loo thing, needing to wee a lot. I think its also related to extra hormones in new hrt as its a new symptom. It also eases through the day so counsellor thinks could be linked to anxiety too ::)

Yep - when I've had a panic attack as it eases off I wee every 10 mins.; ON the dot  ::) ……

Ginger is good for nausea.  DH uses it in almost every meal that he cooks us.
