Tearfull and depressed
« on: November 19, 2014, 12:46:29 PM »

Hi
I'm having a really bad day today ,can't stop crying :( worried about making a small mistake at work, feeling sad that I feel that people just care about themselves and nobody else, normally these sort of feelings wouldn't bother me I could just brush them off and carry on,but I feel that my hormones are up and down so much and I don't know what to do ? Dr wanted to put me on anti depressants for anxiety symptoms etc ,I take St. John's wort but don't feel like it's doing much good at the moment ,I want to get through this whole menopause experience without taking HRT because of family breast cancer history .please please please are these feelings normal with the menopause ? I'd be really grateful of anyone's help :) xxx

I believe the symptoms you are experiencing are the menopause, I too am having the worst day, crying panic anxiety, depressed feel worthless, get up and go, got up and went.
Hope you find some relief, I am thinking of coming of hrt, had 3 different ones and none seems to work.

Good luck.

Hi
Thank you for you're reply :) I'm sorry to hear that you're having a bad day too
,I don't want to go down the HRT route but I'm sure it works like a miracle for some people. I hope you too find an alternative  that helps you ,if you do please let me know,I'd try anything that's natural but not chemical.do you know anything about black cohosh ? I've read somewhere that this might help ? I suppose today I'm cheering myself up by thinking that things can only get better :)
Good luck
Regards
Sam xx

I had the same kind of day you're having today, yesterday.  I was lifting weights yesterday for my exercise and stopped and cried several times.  Had anxiety also.  Today is a little better.  HRT didn't work for me.  I used to be a very organized and focused person.  Have very little focus and concentration since starting menopause.  I have tried antidepressants but can't take them.  Dr. assured me my symptoms are hormone related.  It doesn't make it easier at all and feels awful.  I like to go down the natural route also but was feeling so bad that I have started taking Beta Blockers when I need to for the anxiety.  Hang in there.  I know how you feel.  I tell myself it is hormones and do the  best I can everyday.

Hi Ladies,

Must be something in the air today because I am also having a bad day.  At least we know we are not alone, who would have thought hormones could cause so many problems. Xx

How strong is your family history of breast cancer? My sister died of breast cancer, but I have no other close family history of breast cancer. I had no intention of going down the HRT, mainly because of that, but I have been told that as she was isolated case, I am no more risk than any other women with no family history of breast cancer.

Please try and remember that this is only a temporary phase you are going through. It will get better but in the meantime if you need a little help, ie ADS or beta blockers, then take it. Have a word with your doctor - there are loads of pills out there and hopefully one will work and help you through this time. HRT is not the be all and end all. It helps some people but not others. And does not always help moods.
Good luck,

what strength of St John's Wort do you take?  I have used it for 4 years as I don't suit SSRIs and I find it does level my moods (with the occasional blip).  There are different strengths available but if you do decide to try anti Ds don't take them with the SJW.

The Menopause is a natural progression of Life.  Have a look at the menus, left of screen.  Why not anti-depressant medication, without mine I wouldn't lift my head from the pillow.  At the very least it would allow you to see the wood for the trees.

HRT? why not.  if you are hungry do you not eat?  If HRT helps ease symptoms - and in some cases will be replacing what your body is no longer making in the way of oestrogen, which will protect heart and bones, why not give it a whirl?  Nothing has to be for ever but if you get a few years 'release' from symptoms  :-\

Breast disease is no guide to whether someone should/not take HRT.  Quality of Life is important and if a short course of HRT/ADs etc. helps ……...

What lovely ladies on here, I come on here everyday at least twice a day,
I have lots and lots going on.
I have hashimotos disease, just been diagnosed with meneries disease which is awful I collasped in the bathroom and everytime I tried to get up I could not, the room was spinning my eyes were darting, frightening managed to crawl around and phone ambulance, so on tablets for that now, have now lost hearing in left ear and have tubular bells all the time balance also a problem.
So with all that and the menopause and the hadhimotos, I am in a very bad place at the moment, I don't want to start taking antidepressants, are beta blockers the same.
Lost my job 3 years ago due to being of Sick so much, can't get any benefits.
Oh well back to the gp tomorow, hopefully with news of my blood tests.

Hang in there ladies, I am by my fingernails.  :P

Menieres is awful!  I believe that there is a support group?

Betablockas are used more for helping ease anxiety - I take those too  ;)

Remember - it's getting an ease of symptoms that enables us!  I take 40mg Propranolol at night, about an hour before going to bed.  Stops those awful anxiety surges ……. morning being my worse time! Let us know how you get on!
