Utrogestan vaginally causes bladder irritation?
« on: November 11, 2014, 02:33:16 PM »

Hi everyone,

I have been using Utrogestan vaginally now for quite a few months.....I use 100mg vaginally for 12 days and get a decent bleed every month.    I am fine for the first 7 days of using utrogestan , but after that I tend to feel bladder irritation, feelings like cystitis , needing to go to the loo often, but discomfort and burning when I do.  Wonder if anyone else gets this?

Hi Meeka

I don't get the burning but the general progesterone increase (or sticking things up there?) makes me want to pee more often when I am on the Utrogestan. Vagifem also does this to me so may be just a physical thing rather than physiological.

I sometimes get itching in upper labia when using Utrogestan, but put anti-fungal on and it sorts it out.

If you are having discomfort and burning could it be irritation on account of VA or a urine infection?

I always make sure I am fully loaded with vaginal oestrogen before I start my course but then I am on a longer cycle. I try to do the Vagifem 10 mcg every other night for a week before the Utrogestan so that I am plumped up - first to minimise and burning and secondly to make sure as little as possible is absorbed systemically.

Oh I had this problem and that's why I went back to patches. My bladder just seem to ache more and more.

Thanks for the replies,

It seems to be the utrogestan  because if I douche it out , then the irritation is reduced quite quickly.   I don't think I have VA, not noticed anyway :-\

I have reduced my oestrogel to one pump per day and now do the long cycle with the utrogestan.   This seems to suit me, I have a decent bleed and only have to do the utrogestan every 6 weeks..

I will see if it happens next time and then make a decision if I can tolerate it or may try the oral route again with the utrogestan.

Thanks again for the advice, much appreciated.

I find that the Utro also causes a bit of itchiness and irritation towards the end of the 12 days....regarding the usage of it cyclically, I think as long as you are getting regular scans of the uterus which I seem, to think, that Meeka was doing, then you should be ok...

I presume the doc is able to reduce the dose of utrogestan because Meeka is only having one pump of gell?
