Hi Shellb

I use a few supplements along with HRT but keep them to a minimum.

I mainly have a very good diet so get most of what I need from that - maybe all really!

What I take are:

Iron: Every few days I use a natural herbal iron tonic (Floradix) because I am still having a bleed on my cycle and want to make sure I keep my iron levels up

Cod liver oil: Every few days I take some pure cod liver oil (not capsules) with no added vitamins (Seven Seas) - more often in winter because we eat a lot of freshly caught fish so mostly don't need it.

Calcium and Vit D: Now and again I chew a calcium and Vit D tablet - not sure why really - I bought a 3 for 2 from Boots a while back and probably won't buy any more after this! Again best to get this from diet and sunlight!

Vit C: That's about it - if I feel a cold coming I chew a conc Vit C tab but also eat lots of fruit including oranges and apples, and drink lemon (fresh squeezed!) and honey at these times too!

I must stress that I don't take all of these every day - and in fact many days I don't take anything - these are just to top up what I get from my diet. I make sure I only take a little, and certainly nowhere near the amounts given on all the instructions - because the body has to deal with and then excrete most of the excess, and if you have a good diet it is not necessary.

What are you thinking about or what aspects of your health are you hoping to help with?

Hurdity thank you  :thankyou:,

I have taken a multivitamin since I don't know when and not really sure why. I guess in the past before my husband retired I was a bad eater and have a borderline eating disorder, I just didn't bother to cook when I was on my own  and ate too many carbs and sugars and not enough protein and fruit and veg.  Since he retired my diet is much better so sometimes I skip the multivitamin. Thank you for reinforcing this.

I do take St John's Wort as I did badly on SSRIs and it stabilises my moods and I take Glucosamine for my joints.  I tried fish oils but I couldn't tolerate them which made me sad as they really helped my dry eye and blepharitis.

Sorry, this thread is about supplements and HRT and I don't take HRT.  I'll go now............

Hi Ladies
Thanks for the replies, I just wanted a boost really for general wellbeing, especially with winter coming. I have vitabiotics women's health capsules so I will see how I get on.
Thanks
