BBC Children in Need
« on: November 10, 2014, 07:32:15 PM »

It gets more and more intense each year.  Last week Chris Evans said that only a percentage will go towards C in N, this evening we were watching an 'advert' where less than all the amount donated will go to the Charitable cause.  I thought all monies goes towards it  :-\

Some phone company somewhere is making money off the back of this …… we don't give towards this particular cause as we support with time or give cans/blankets etc. to animal charities or human food banks.

I'm not sure when they changed then as they have always promised that every penny goes to projects helping children. Maybe he was talking about a specific event? This is quite interesting reading http://www.smallcharitydirectory.co.uk/what-percentage-of-donations-go-to-charity

It was earlier, Tess was asking for donations - along the bottom of the screen ran the details of how much was likely to go to C in N  :-\

My hubbies favourite charity is the Lifeboat one. We have a station in our town and every penny you give locally stays local. His brother was a fisherman and they sing the praises of the volunteers.
When I managed a golf club catering thingy we used to have the Lifeboat volunteers in for annual doos.
I have just started serving the main course they got a "shout" I was left with an empty dining room and a lot of spoiling food  ::).

I'm not too keen on giving money to charities that have posh offices, cars and lots of highly paid executives.

We support Lifeboats.  I try to buy as much in their shops as postage from the catalogue is too expensive.  Living close to the Coast we had Cromer close by  ;)

As we run a business we give to charity through that. A cancer charity. We get a lot of phone calls and people coming in wanting us to donate (yes flash cars and suits) to them but unfortunately can't do all, I think when you donate it should all go to them not a %.

We give to cancer charities, as like many others, it has touched our lives in the past. CIN is a deserving charity also & I will no doubt donate something this week.

I was watching that celebrity choir thing last night - you could donate £5 by text.  The cost was £5 + standard message rate, with £5 going to CIN, so the full 'donation' went to CIN, but you pay the cost of the text (if it's not included in your phone tariff).  Seems fair to me.
