Upped the Evorel Patch
« on: November 07, 2014, 07:26:27 PM »

Hi Everyone.  Hope you are all doing ok.

Haven't been on for a while as my MS has been quite bad.

I have been on Evorel Conti for 7 months due to no periods for 2 years and bad palps.  The palps completely disappeared once I started the Evorel but just lately they have reappeared so I have upped from half a patch to 3/4 patch twice a week.  Fingers crossed this will work.

Just wondered if anyone else had to up the dose as symptoms re-occurred.

Look forward to any replies.

Shazzie xx

Hi Shazzie - I have some similarities to you - i.e. the MS & Evorel Conti.

I had tried to cut down on my patches, so cut them down to 2/3 then 3/4 of a patch. My MS got worse so went back onto full patches. This worked for  over a full year but VA type issues are starting to occur again, so think I may need local oestrogen as well (I do have some Gynest but suspect it's well out of date  ::)) Also, I use Gabapentin - at least 500mg daily for neuropathic pain.

The MS things are getting a bit more obvious, even on full patches but this does tie in with a couple of months of OH not being too good, stress doesn't help.

I would consider using full patches to help with the MS things.

Hi Shazza

I too have ms and on similar patch but with bleed everol Sequil I have only ever been on 50 whole patch and am 47 and have been on it over two years, but recently have been getting a few hot flushes, and tonight I am really exhausted, for no apparent reason (except the normal ms fatigue) but that was under control, as Limpy said to me a while ago not to do too much of any one thing(thanks Limpy).

I'm wondering if the Nortriptyline I've been reducing could be the cause, as a friend of mine told me today that antidepressants have been recognised as reducing them by ??? Can't remember now who she said!
Or whether I need to increase the patch dose.

Can either of you please tell me in what way did the estrogeon help with your ms
symptoms as I have nothing to compare?

I'm down to 35mg of Nortriptyline now and guess what I've not had electric nerve pain tingling down my arm or tinnitus since getting to 40mg!

Have you guys heard anything about statins being used for ms if it gets re-licensed this week for it?

Hi Smokey - I'me not being rude but our broadband speed is horrible at the moment - so will so reply (ish) to 2 things at once.

Oestrogen - With MS, you know when it's not there. For me when I stopped the pill after Meno the MS problems got far worse, more loss of balance, more headaches and less feeling in limbs. Also pregnant MS ladies seem not to get relapses when pregnant.  After they give birth, the MS things do seem to get worse.....................

Statins - I've not used or know about them them but I have heard that they can prevent the progression of MS symptoms. Don't know..........................

I went from 1/2 patch - 3/4 and then a full patch, as things crept in again. Thankfully i am coping on the full patch even though i still get the odd blip. Hope this helps. x

Hi Limpy, Smokey and jgr.  Tnanks so much for your replies.

So interesting Limpy and Smokey that your MS got worse the same as me almost as if when the half patches stopped working which is why I decided to increase the patches.  I am on 1200mg Gabapentin for nerve pain.  I am also on Rebif injections.

Be interested to see how you all go on from now on.  I will let you know how I get on too.

Thanks so much for you replies.  I really appreciate it.

Gabapentin really does help with nerve pain, but I pile on the weight with it!
500mg a day (split doses) is just enough to deaden the nerve pain without assuming Michelin man proportions.

I get what you mean Limpy.  I've had the same prob so might decrease the Gabapentin a bit.  Also, my facial hair has gone in megadrive since starting the Gabapentin.  Nightmare isn't it?

Yep - Especially as this is the stuff that helps a bit. There's not much like that around   ;D
