Sorry Hattie!

I think that it will depend on whether the lining is "uniform". When I had mine (while on HRT) my lining was 7mm which was too high but as it was the same depth all the way round it was decided that no follow up was necessary. I was in the middle of a heavy bleed at the time. So it was just left. I did find out that I had fibroids which I didn't know before!! I recently had a hysterectomy (prolapse) and the womb was, apparently, in "tip top condition" so the decision not to carry out a hysteroscopy was obviously the right one for me.

I think that a lot of it is down to your symptoms and also the individual consultant as to whether they will want to take an endometrial biopsy or leave things as they are. Not sure as to whether you will be given progesterone to shed it.

Yes my gynae told me they can see from the appearance of the lining if it is thickened in a bad way...he said that it should look like Swiss Cheese... :D

They can also see if its fibroids or polyps causing the bleeding and then make the decision. Mine was also 7 but he told me to take the utrogestan and come back just after I have finished bleeding, in order to get a better idea which I am scheduled for in the next week.

Good luck and let us know how you get on. Am sure that you can request a clean out with the progesterone but then it will require another scan to see how things look I guess.....

Hi Hattie.

Like the others have said - it depends if it's thickened or not and if they can see anything from the TVS.

I had transvaginal ultrasound last year and the lining was thickened (but not surprising as I still have a cycle), and they could also see an abnormality so then went for hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy. The gynae wasn't bothered about the thickening (nor was I!) and the abnormality turned out to be a small fibroid which he also wasn't worried about, and the biopsy came out clear.

Best thing is to wait and see and take it one procedure at a time - and above all try not to worry unduly although I appreciate it is always worrying when you are waiting for results.

If you are on HRT 6.2mm is not generally considered over the top...but good that they are doing it anyway...at least, you will have peace of mind...sorry just noticed that you are on Vagifem not HRT... then that is obviously why they are investigating further...from what I have gathered the biopsy is not really too much of a big deal...will you be having it under GA?

Hattie......you must let them no about your PN stuff as you don't want a flare up, it is having polyps removed that caused mine in the first place. Tell them to treat you like a China doll, regards how they put your legs in the stirrups etc. by the way the polyps I had removed just came back apparently that is common, and guess what a year later mine are back. But they can stay as I can't fade anything going in anything down there.xx

I paid to have a scan before I went on the vagifem, and will have one everyone two years.

Perhaps practice with dilators before the speculam goes in?

What we have to go through. >:(

I am 53 and have not had a period for over two years.
I have started on an Evorel patch-50mcg and Urtrogestan.
I'm going to have a long cycle hrt. Can you advise me if 100mg of Urtrogestan for 12 days is enough every two months? I would like to take it three monthly really as I'm not good with progesterone.
Any advice would be welcome ☺️
