Confused about how to work this Femseven Conti out
« on: October 21, 2014, 11:53:47 AM »

Hi ladies, I'm new to posting on here, although I have lurked for some time and I've gained some very useful insights into the minefield that is hrt.

My problem is severe VA, so a year ago my doc put me on Vagifem and it was a godsend. No more running to the loo or feeling like someone had stuck an ice pick inside me. However, as I still have my uterus I needed progesterone adding to the mix. I didn't want a coil or oral hrt so my doc  prescribed FemSevenConti as I hadn't had a period since 51 (six years ago).

All went well until six weeks in and then the depression hit big time. I came off the patches and went back on the Vagifem awhile. I thought about trying the Vagifem on a three monthly basis then adding in Utrogestan for 10 days but to be honest I don't really want to return to heavy bleeds or take a lot of progesterone. So, I was wondering what anyone thought about taking Vagifem, again for three months then adding in the Femseven Conti for a month or so. Does this sound feasible or would I be messing around with my hormone levels too much?

At the moment I'm on half a patch so I suppose I will have to see how things pan out  but I was wondering whether half the amount of progesterone would be enough to keep my endometrium thin if I took it alongide the Vagifem for ten days every three months.

By the way, my username, rantywoman suits me so well these days, I always used to be so even tempered and chilled but now....... ;D

Thank you, I think it's ok to take Vagifem unnopposed for a short time but not long term. I could be wrong though.

You most definitely do not have to take any kind of progesterone with Vagifem.

If that's what your GP thinks then that's dreadful.

If you are happy with Vagifem then that's great.

Thank you honeybun, that's wonderful to hear! I've recently changed doctors so am hoping this new one is more informed and living in the 21st century.

There is so little uptake of oestrogen into the body after the initial two week loading period that it makes progesterone completely unnecessary.

Some doctors are so ignorant it makes me want to scream.

Good luck with your new GP. Lots of info for you in the menu on the left. It's,sad that we have to do our own research but the more clued up You are the better.
