You need anti-viral stuff to paint on the rash pdq - ring doctor for prescription.

It is something you just get - the virus from chicken pox stays in your nerve cells and comes back.  There is no rhyme or reason.  I had it when I was 13 and all the rest of the school had chicken pox.  You don't get it from chicken pox  ::)  Everyone I have known get it have all been pretty healthy.  It is just if you are old/infirm/ill, it is more of a problem.

You will have had chickenpox in order to catch the shingles virus, stress is the most likely thing to trigger it.  My M in L had it following a nasty fall.  If you get the correct anti-virual stuff within 24 hours it will ease symptoms enormously.  Where has it surface from, around the 'middle'?

My mum had it really bad in her 70s. Took her long time to recover as she didn't go to GP until a few weeks in.

My mum had it last year at 91. She had the pills and would not take them but was fine. A bit uncomfy for a couple of weeks but that was it. She was very lucky.

Just shows how different we all are.

My mother in law is 90 and she just had shingles too. It must have been quite mild as she seemed to get over it quite well.  Hope you soon feel better

Calamine lotion or cream is very good as is Piriton. Keep the Calamine in the fridge and perhaps stop wearing a bra for a while.

Hope you feel much better soon.

My mum had to give up wearing bras for a while. She bought some cotton vest tops instead.

When my daughter had it she was told to put the Zovirax lip stuff you use for cold sores on the area, and it took all the pain away, just has to keep reapplying per instructions.
