Gotta go see one on weds.......anyone know what they are? Im thinking physiotherapist but with a tad more knowledge....anyone been to see one about all their aches and pains?

Why not ring the Dept you are attending and ask the question  …….. 'extended scope' means nowt to me.  Best not to undergo any manipulation though as people can be paralysed!  Did your GP refer you?

Yes GP sorted it out for me....sounds like Im  gonna get probed but its about all my aches so Im presuming physio?

I think you need to have another chat with your GP.  You should be certain about what treatment your GP has referred you for!

'http://www.yorkhospitals.nhs.uk' -    discusses here about the various 'types' of treatment including physiotherapy and 'manipulation'.  DO NOT allow anyone to manipulate your spine without them first seeing a recent X-ray and manipulation should be under under full GA otherwise people can tense up which increases the risk of paralysis.

An Extended Scope Physiotherapist (ESP) is a clinical physiotherapy specialist with an extended scope of practice. This implies working beyond the recognised scope of physiotherapy practice, for example requesting investigations e.g. US scans/nerve conduction studies, using the results of investigations to assist clinical diagnosis and appropriate management of patients; listing for surgery and referring to other professionals.

ESP's hold post graduate qualifications, e.g. MSc, Society of Orthopaedic Medicine (SOM) membership or equivalent, and most have a Diploma in Injection Therapy"

Well I thought I was going to see someone about all my joint pains etc, yes I have osteoarthritis in my right foot and a very painful big toe which I injured years ago doing aikido, I know all of that....the GP told me!.....so I was expecting xrays on my hips and knees (that's why I cancelled my mammogram for tomorrow)...........,.so NO xrays she didn't even manipulate my knees or hips all she went on about was my feckin big toe, which I already know about! SO now Ive got to do a self referral  for the physio and go to York hospital back end of November to get a special sole made to help with the feckin BIG TOE!!!!!! I kept asking her about my swollen wrist joints and could all these pains be hormonal.........she didn't know  I suppose if I went private they'd be on me like a tramp on chips

To be honest I have been thoroughly disappointed with all of the referrals I have had on the NHS for Physio especially the "farmed out" ones to private companies . The last one I saw said she would refer me for Acupuncture, I went three times and never saw a needle!! all she did was move my wrist up and down and suggested I use hot and cold applications. 

I kept saying that I had been referred for Acupuncture and she kept say "we'll see"  to be honest she did not look as if she had any training in it and wore a badge saying physiotherapist.

I thought it was too good to be true that the NHS would refer for Acupuncture. I signed myself off as it seemed pointless to keep going. Its far better as far as I am concerned to treat myself and luckily at the moment I am pain free.

I can't complain about the NHS diagnosing joint and muscle problems, just treating them.

Why did you cancel the mammogram  ……….

You need to go back to who ever referred you and see what was in the referral letter!

Our GP offered acupuncture but we paid for the needles as it wasn't on the NHS.

I was under the impression I would be having lots of xrays done today, so I cancelled the mammogram  but will make another appt for one which they said is fine.
