What to wear to a little wedding
«

As some of you will know my niece is getting married in November. I am doing the bulk of the catering for her very small reception in my sister's house. She is then having a night "do" for her friends.
So what to wear.
I had thought, a pair of dressy trousers and a pretty, dressy top. My daughter has thrown her hat in the ring and said no I should wear a dress. I need to wear something that will allow me to run around setting out sausage rolls and making tea and pouring wine....but will still look nice. Don't feel like spending a fortune and would like it to be something I can wear again......
HELP

HB, I would go for what you have suggested. Practical but dressy.

Definitely your choice - you need to be comfortable.
Make your decision and go for it - you will look great!

Which would you feel more comfortable wearing - go for that!
I catered a friend's wedding (50 guests) and wore a dress because I thought it would be expected - nightmare!! Trying to put finishing touches to things in the kitchen, taking things out of the oven, etc, whilst making sure I didn't get my shoe caught in the hem, dip a sleeve in anything ... never again! Should have gone for trousers!

That's what I thought.
I need to be comfortable as well as dressed.
Trousers and a nice top it is.

Lots of tops that you wear with trousers (ie tunic styles of various kinds) look like dresses anyway - this is what I wear most of the time when out - so that's a good compromise anyway. Also some longer garments sold as dresses look good over leggings (which are really like thick tights), so you could still wear a "dress" of sorts but not feel over dressed. Would go well with boots or shoes of your choice and no-one will even look at your trousers/leggings.

Great idea Hurdity.
As a matter of interest where do you get your long tops from?
If you dont mind me asking
I was looking at Joe Brown but they seem expensive and charge for delivery

I agree with Hurdity and was going to suggest leggings with a dress/tunic. I am sure you will look nice whatever you choose to wear honeybun but dress for you, not for anyone else.

Thanks BJ.
I like the tunic idea. Need to go shopping soon.

You asked your sister
........ I would wear what I was comfy in. Especially if there may be bending to remove things from ovens etc., one may need to bend or kneel down - though what would I know, DH does the cooking

Trousers and tunic top is what I would go for too. I've got a pair of black slim leg stretchy trousers that I wear with a cowl neck tunic (its a dress actually but too short for me) and low heel wedge sandals. Its very comfortable and looks dressed up even though it's so simple. And you can wear them with other things too of course.
You won't enjoy the occasion if you don't feel comfortable so definitely choose something that you know is right.
