I've always admired an older woman in our local pub. She always looks really nice even when dressed casually. Her hair is shiny and healthy looking and her skin is amazing too. She is still working (through choice) and has bags of energy. She's 68. She's been on HRT since she was 50. Nobody can say, of course, whether she would still be as energetic and look as good if she wasn't on HRT but she said on the three occasions she has tried to come off the first thing that happens is a really low mood and loss of interest and pride in herself. Unfortunately, she lives in a different village to me so I can't have her obviously HRT-after-60-supportive doctor!

Taz - How far is her village - Could you not register at her GP practice?

No - not allowed. Has to be within a five mile radius. I could always move but seems a bit drastic!  :)

Technically i am out the other side as i had surgical meno.  BUT i am on hrt so my body is lulled int a false sense of security. Not looking forward to coming off it at 50 ish.  I am only getting a few yrs on it du to BRCA2.

Taz im going abroad soon, what kind if hrt do you want and i can price it up for you at the pharmacy as you can buy it over the counter.

That's a kind offer Linsey but the thought of having it for a while and then not being able to get it again is worse than carrying on without it. I still have to see my GP (on holiday at the moment) again as she did say if I really couldn't manage without it after giving being off it a fair try then she would reconsider. I'm also going to email the menopause clinic I used to attend just to get their take on the best one for me to be on now that I don't need progesterone added in. I feel that being off it for thirteen months is a "fair try" and hopefully the doc will feel the same!

Where are you going?

Hi Taz

Not a prob if you change your mind let me know, I go to /from cyprus regularly. Going away soon for 25 nights, cant wait.   Then back again for New Year.  Then half term in Feb so your supply wouldnt have been a prob.  Drug prices there are controlled by Govt and all pharmacies charge the same.

Hopefully your GP will come round to your way of thinking.  I view a quality of life more important than what the guidelines say.

Let us know how you get on. X

  It just struck me in the gym this morning, that there are lots of post -menopausal women in there on a regular basis who all have fab figures and lots of energy......... ;D
Why didn't I connect the two earlier ?? ::)
