It's that dreaded walk from the changing room to the water - but yes a big towel sounds like a plan.  I know I will feel so much better if I do it but I have become rather set in my ways - ok lazy!! I used to wonder how larger ladies got that big.  It's easy.  I have found since I finished work ( not by choice - health ) then mothers brain haemorrhage  = huge life change.  My mother loves sweet stuff so there are always cakes etc around plus without my job I feel a bit lost.  A stone went on the first year and now a second one has joined in.  But no more.
Swimming is on the cards for Thursday xxx. Plus no cakes or chocolate.  Wine - Mmm - hard.
Thanks ladies xxx

Oh I would so love to swim, but am phobic about water. But when it comes to doing exercise, it is finding something you are prepared to persist at. I have started going to a yoga session once a week. I never want to go, but I have paid upfront and don't want to waste my money! I'm hoping this will encourage me to do more exercise generally. I don't think yoga helps in weight loss, but it helps in other ways, breathing, balance, core strength etc. I am feeling the benefits already. I can stand on one foot and not fall over!  ;D

Yes, I think it's finding something you will do regularly. The same with losing weight. It's one thing knowing you should lose weight, but you are having to cope with so many difficult things, it is hard. I was only able to lose weight because I was in the right place emotionally. And you are the harshest judge of you! Other people are more interested in themselves. That's human nature! So put on that swimming costume and be proud of you!

Lots of ladies wrap a towel around themselves before they get in the pool.

good luck with the swimming. I love it. Not sure about serious weight loss but it's got to be really good for you, and so relaxing. Don't worry about your 'size'. Put a cap on and goggles and go for it  :D
(I have a noseclip too - even more alluring  ;D)

The trick is to find some exercise that you enjoy. Being a bit bigger helps with buoyancy! The only downside of swimming is that it can make you hungry afterwards, more than other exercise I find.
I also take a low cal energy drink to help against cramp.
Hope you have fun.

Oh groundhog I feel just the same about my bod
I have lost 3 stone in 2 years (still got a couple of stones to go) but my legs look horrible and I will not let anyone see them
I love swimming,  although I dont breathe properly so cant do more than a couple of lengths before gasping for air! Then I rest and go off again.
It saddens me that my own thoughts of my body stops me doing something I love and would be physically good for me
I do cycle and walk which helps
Well done you for making changes under difficult circumstances and the best of luck for Thursday!
Let us know how it goes

PN, you'll have to practice breathing out hard when your head is in the water  :D

Honestly ladies, don't be put off by your size. I see all shapes and sizes and no-one bats an eyelid.
Or you could buy one of those more cover up type of swimming costumes?
Please don't let self consciousness stop you from doing something fun. x

Have a chat with the Leisure Centre; maybe post a notice asking if there are any ladies of a certain size who would like to have sessions without the public ......... there may be slots avaialble that a group of you could hire?  It's my hairy legs that stopped me swimming couldn't be bothered with all the preparation  ::)

Oh don't be put off with size. There are many people of varying sizes, men & women go to my pool.  You can get costumes which come down to your knees if you like. I had to find one which kept my ample  :boobs: in place & I did. It's an aquarobics one, which has a zip at the front. I use it for swimming.

Hairy legs are easily solved  ::)......buying a razor is a start.

Lots of ladies at my local pool just wrap the towel around. Once your in the pool no one sees anything.

Hi old sheep - yes I went yesterday.  I had a bad day as I was on my own and feeling down so I thought I must do something or I am going to sink further.  I went to the pool about 530 - it was very busy but I made it inthe water and swam about 30 lengths.  No one was interested in how fat I was lol !  I was shattered last night I couldn't keep my eyes open!  So at last I have done something.  Now have to make sure I go back - my weeks fill up quite quickly owing to family stuff.  But yes it was enjoyable and I did feel better after.
Thank you xx

Yes thank you - I did feel good after so I have to keep it up.  The pool is about 20 mins drive away but will be much quieter in the day.  My husband did point out they are not Olympic pool size lengths - I told him to bog off lol.  He is only jealous - he's tubby too and I think he feels threatened when I try and lose weight ha ha xx
