Old symptoms back, so fed up
« on: August 13, 2014, 10:38:52 AM »

Hi,
Basically for a few months all the horrible lead up to my period seemed to dissapear and it was lovely. I would get a headache and a few mild cramps on the first day and for the duration of my period i actually feel more like my old self. It's actually the best week of the month for me.The painful boobs, low moods, bad skin seemed to be a distant memory.
I turned 39 last week and i am due on in two weeks, boobs are already starting that familiar feeling of a dull ache and my skin had just calmed down after the last eruption of horrible large red lumps that appeared on my face but i have now woken to a big red lump on my upper lip which has made my lip swollen on one side as though i have been punched in the face, my moods are irritable, tired and low and i had my first proper bad sleep a few nights ago (i have been fairly ok on that front for a while)where i wake up suddenly after about an hours deep sleep, drenched in sweat and a red flushed face and ended up awake until 4 in the morning. (this hasn't happened in ages, i started drinking decaf tea and limited one coffee in the morning a while ago).
I have said on here before how my Mum and her Mum had menopause at 40 and i still can't say yes it's definately happening to me as one doc said probably and one doc said i was too young, sometimes i feel a fraud being on here because i just wonder if it really is pre-menopause.
I know i don't feel right and many of the things i read on here i can so relate to, anyone else get like this about it all?

Hi,
I am so put off going to the doctors, i never see the same one and i feel like they really have no interest in what i have to say. The one lovely doctor i did see originally when i started to feel all these symptoms was the one who thought this was probably pre menopause and was very nice but she isn't there on a regular basis.
I have no idea whether there is such a thing as a menopause clinic where i live and the last doctor i saw made me feel like i was being so silly thinking this was happening to me.
My Mum was on HRT by the time she was 40, i have to be honest and say i really don't want to be put on anything as i was on the pill from about 16 for my periods (i am 39 now)and about 2 years ago I stopped taking any sort of pill as my husband had the snip once we decided no more children and i felt so great not taking anything.
The docs just seem so undecided and seem to lack any sort of information about this stuff, i just felt i would carry on as it's going to happen at some point anyway and if it gets really bad then i will have good reason to go to the docs.

If it is an early meno, then it's so important to get on HRT for your future health. It will protect you from osteoporosis and heart disease and also VA.

There is a find a meno clinic facility at the top of the page. Some are self referral.

I think you really need to see your GP and find out for sure.

I agree with honeybun and Stellajane. You need to get this sorted out really. It could be that you do need HRT especially as your mum went through early meno. Have you had a look at the menu on the left of the screen which talks about premature menopause (before 40) and early menopause (before 45)? If your hormone levels have lowered at an early age then you will be at risk of heart disease and osteoporosis as the oestrogen protects you from these diseases. Your body is supposed to supply oestrogen up to around 50/51. If you take HRT up to this age then there are no risks as you are merely replacing what your body is unable to make naturally. After this date is when the risks begin as you are extending the amount of years that oestrogen is in your body. It's confusing but you should think of your health. It's no good putting up with it and then going onto HRT say in ten years time when you have had enough of the symptoms but damage may have already occurred. To find a specialist you need to click on Find a Specialist at the top of the page.

I'm not sure what you want to happen if you are not prepared to take anything though?
