Anyone know which is the best balanced PH shampoo out there?  Not wanting expensive stuff, just something that's actually good for my hair/scalp. I'm trying to change soap too as my skin is drying out terribly. So any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Simple range should be ok or baby shampoo. Only problem is I find they strip my hair of natural oils.

Difficult one CG.  Is it a dry scalp. Head and Shoulders is really good for a dry scalp.

Scalp OK, but read ph balanced stuff is better. Doesn't block pores so much.  Tried herbal essences but hair feels bleugh with it.  However, not sure how balanced it is. Just trying to help my aging skin.

Hi CG, don't know if your hair is curly or straight...any shampoo that has sodium laureth sulphate in it will dry your hair, it's the same stuff in washing up liquid, strips all natural oils from your hair.
There are some sulphate-free shampoos knocking around now.
My hair is really curly, I wash it with conditioner usually until it feels like it has a build-up on it then use a S-F shampoo, prob once every 10 days or so...has done wonders for the condition.


P.S if anyone has curly hair prone to frizz, go on youtube and search for 'plopping curly hair' it's nicer than it sounds and it changed my life

   I buy what I fancy using, however I believe that Charles Worthington products are good.  I have Johnson's baby shampoo, several others: names of course escape me, occasionally I put a conditioner on.  I tried Timotei and that 1 (Tresamai?) advertised that the professionals use, both dry out my hair.  Apparently if one washes and rinses the hair then pours a little warm olive oil into the palms and spread it into the hair, wrap with an old towel and sit, it can soften the hair.  Rinse well though or 1 smells like a chish and phipp shop as does vinegar.  I think varying the shampoo as well as having a really good wash and cut is helpful.

Hi Cuba Girl you could try Allergenics or Dr Organics who do haircare ranger with various ingredients. Both avail from Holland and Barrett

Thanks ladies. Been searching about on google. Herbal essences supposed to be good, but my hair felt awful after using it. Tried Aussie stuff too, same problem. I do like the CW stuff, but quite expensive.  Got me a clarifying shampoo to clean away all the gunk, hair now super smooth & soft. It was really bugging me, felt like I'd never washed my hair.

So now will check out some others. Used to never have problems with shampoo, bought whatever was on special offer. My locks are becoming sensitive in my old age. 

Got my dry skin to sort out now. Switched to Dove a while back as hubby sensitive to other soaps, but my skin still very dry. Maybe need to exfolliate/moisturise more.

When i was in cyprus i bought dr organics argan body oil, really good, didnt get the usual crocodile looking skin.

Expensive initially but 1 doesn't require as much each time! 

I like Dove products but hate the containers, there's always a lot at the bottom that can't be squeezed out  which is how they make their profits

I have scalp psoriasis - most of the time I can use any shampoo I fancy (Dove ProAge at the the moment because I LOVE the smell!), but if it's badly inflamed and sore I find the Aveda range calms it down (particularly like the rosemary and mint, which smells like you could use it as a marinade for lamb!) - it's expensive, but a little goes a long way as you don't have to wash residue off before it washes the hair (I have waist-length hair and only need a blob of Aveda about the size of a 2p).  There's no petro-chemicals in the range - all plant derivatives.

The term 'pro age' put me off  - not the kind of product would could give for a present 

Aloe vera is soothing too - reminds me, must go and treat the chicken under her tail where she's sore - back later!

Aveda is really good and a little goes a long way, I know a lady who works in a senior position  for one of the biggest  names in shampoos and she said she would never put a supermarket shampoo on her head/hair , theres a reason why they are so cheap,  her advice was always buy them from a hairdressers shop or similar,

Have to say I've never bought supermarket branded shampoo. I have tended towards professional makes,like Charles Worthington, Trevor Sorbie. Years ago when Vidal Sassoon brought out his range, I bought it all the time. Had many compliments about my hair.

I'm stuck between styles at the moment. Decided to start growing out my pixie cut, but recent warm weather has made me realise why I went short in the first place. So it's getting the chop again, much easier to look after. I have really thick straight hair, which gets out of control when it's longer, starts kinking in strange ways & goes lank very quickly.

It was just that I saw something about it being better for your skin if you use PH balanced soaps & shampoos. I'd never given it much thought before then.

I use own brand shampoos, soaps etc. without problems.  Fortunately  ……… let us know how you get on!
