Worse before better?
« on: August 03, 2014, 04:02:37 PM »

Hello ladies me again...

so, 4th day of Evorel Sequi patches, stuck on properly now! After thinking I felt pretty mellow a couple of days ago, today I went into town and had really bad sweats and dizziness/anxiety.
I did come on a couple of days ago, I guess my own body's weird rhythm? I don't know if I'm feeling worse because of the extra hormone, or just how I usually feel when I'm 'on'...don't think I usually feel this doom-ridden though.

So I guess my question is, have any of you felt worse before feeling better when you started HRT? I do have a large capacity for impatience but just worrying I've done the wrong thing by trying this...made worse by a friend telling me I was too young/ wasn't fully meno so I shouldn't be on it...

Hi KG - It can take several months before you and your body get used to Evorel, or any other patches.
It takes time to settle down.

This friend on yours who thinks you shouldn't be on it.....
Are they medically qualified?
Do they know anything about meno?
Do they know anything about anything?

Of course people are entitled to their opinions, but it helps if they know what they are talking about.

I was never going to use HRT, my body is temple sort of thing, then reality caught up.

Hi Limpy, thanks for replying :)

She's already fully meno herself and having sweats etc, maybe she doesn't realise that you can get help for peri symptoms too, although she's never had PMS in her life and I've been plagued by it...imagine never having had PMS!!
I guess she's got her opinions, I shouldn't let them make me doubt myself...

Like you I always said I wouldn't use HRT, but pretty soon changed my mind.

Maybe too many times going to the doc for help (before I changed my gp) and being told it's nothing have made me actually believe I'm just a hypochondriac and i don't need anything to feel better apart from 'change in lifestyle'

I really hope this does work though because I'm fed up of feeling like a ghost :(

Oh I did feel peculiar when I first started these patches. If I had known what I know now I would have started with half a patch. If you think about it....your body has had depleted hormones for a while. Then all of a sudden it's flooded with them. It's bound to go....What's happening. It takes a while to settle but if you are struggling then cut a bit off but give it a few days first.

As for your friend...... :-X

thank you HB...

yes that makes sense,  definitely feels like my body has had a surge of something... Got work tomorrow, hopefully can hold it together there, oh well, will stack some fresh clothes in my bag just incase...

Due to change patch on Wednesday, will cut it if I still feel weird.

I look like my nana when i catch sight of myself in the mirror at the moment.  :o

Yes my friend, she's a bit bonkers, when her son came to my DD's 2nd birthday party she rushed up and snatched the bowl of jelly and ice cream of out his hand because it wasn't organic  ;D ;D

Hopefully will have some positive things to report soon!

Killtgirl - Honeyb makes a lot of sense, try cutting a bit of a patch to see how it goes but do give it a while first.

Another thing to consider, there are two different types of patch in Evorel sequi, you may feel different on the two types, give it time.

Another thing, not directly connected to this thread.
It has dawned on me recently that many / all of the peculiar things that had been happening to me from when I was about 45 were in fact meno, I never knew about it, thought I was too young  ::)

Hi Limpy, I feel better now I know why it's happened probably, just going to go with it and see what happens, reckon it's my best chance at normality right now!

Do you cut the conti patches too...ie the 2nd fortnight's ones? and if you do, do you cut them by the same amount...just for future reference if this doesn't settle down...

should i give it a full cycle before i think of doing that?

questions questions

yep, mid forties...start of the 'age of wisdom'  ;D ;)

You have to cut them all.....sequi or conti. That means you are getting the correct balance.
I am on conti now so my patches are both oestrogen and progesterone so I cut them all.
You would have to cut the sequi ones too. Your first two weeks are oestrogen only and the second two weeks are combined. You then start again and have a bleed....ideally...although my period turned up at odd times. Go with it and it will settle down.
You can start and cut your next patch if you want as its early days it shouldn't make any difference at all. It's sometimes easier to start on a very small amount if you are having side effects.
Let us know how you get on.

Hi Kiltgirl - I'me not an expert but I wouldn't cut any patches till you've been on them for a while, perhaps see how you settle down? If you do cut them, I would think you should cut then equally.  You may feel different on the conti patches anyway.

None of this is straightforward....... ::)

Hi Just wondering what are these patches are and how they work, I take tablets but feel terrible, I asked doctor about patches and she completely dismissed me. Any information on these would be really useful - Thank you

Hi Jobo. HRT patches are applied to your skin and you absorb the hormones directly into your blood stream which means the liver is by passed and they are therefore especially good for women who find pills difficult to take due to digestive problems. There are two types of combination HRT patches, Evorel and Femseven. This info is from the menu on the left of the screen http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/treatment.php

Patches are much more expensive for the practice to prescribe than pills so this may be the reason why the doc hasn't given you any information. However, it could also be that she is not well versed on HRT and you will need to do your own finding out from this site so that you can go back to her with all the relevant information!
