will this ever end or at least get better
« on: July 27, 2014, 07:36:10 PM »

I really really need help and advice from my fellow sufferers. In my past postings, I have chronicled how I changed my surgery this year and went for help with getting thru the menopause. I asked for HRT but they were more interested in my 'high' blood pressure so would only prescribe anti depressants and beta blockers. Finally tho, the last time I saw the doc, my blood pressure was fine and I was asked what did I want HRT wise?????? and this is where I need your help. I go back to the docs on friday so I need to have decided by then. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.  :-*

Your GP needs to give you some options. However, if you take a look at green menu on here, you will get an idea as to what is available. What is fine for one is not necessarily OK for another.

Hello Cubagirl, thanks for responding. You would think that your GP would give all the options wouldn,t you? Unfortunately, my surgery is not really into HRT at all and therefore reluctantly they will prescribe it but without recommendations. I have had a look at the menu on the left and I am  maybe being a bit simple, but I find it all quite complicated and technical. I was hoping to have advice based on fellow sufferers personal experience because when it comes down to it, it all seems to be a matter of trial and error anyway. When I read this back I sound like a pathetic moaning Minnie, sorry! :-\

Sorry I cant remember how old you are and if you are still having a period or not.

Simple rule of thumb...sequi for a bleed...conti for no bleed. Oestrogen only if you have had a hysterectomy and if not then both oestrogen and progesterone.

I am on patches. They work quickly and as they are transdermal and I have a sensitive tummy then they work well for me. I think they are also best for people with high blood pressure.
Have a look at the menu.
Start off with a low to medium dose. You can always increase if needs be but starting off lower minimizes initial side effects.

Thanks for the info honeyb. I saw the doc on friday and ended up with a prescription for Femseven Sequi patches. However, couldn,t get the prescription filled until today as they do not keep it in store. So, I have put the first one on today and even tho it must be just a placebo effect, I feel more positve and better in myself already.  :)  I understand that you keep it on for a week at a time so you can obviously bathe and shower with it on but what about swimmimg? Would I need to cover it with anything?. I really enjoy swimming and go quite often and would like to continue but not if it messes with the patches as I am really banking on these working :'(
