feel so ill
« on: June 19, 2014, 07:26:35 PM »

Hi to everyone.
Im pretty much new to this great group,iv only posted once before and that was a few months ago.
At the moment im feeling rather rubbish,i was diagnosed in 2009 with hypothyoidism and am taking thyroxine for this.
For the past two years i have been having a good few bouts of either uti,s or sinus problems,i have had a procedure done where they look at your bladder and everything was good.
I also had cryotherapy done two weeks ago as i had a mild cervical dysplasia.
Im going to be 43 in a few months time and i feel that whenever i approach my gp about possible peri menopause they dismiss it or say to me that the only way for me to know is if i no longer have any periods.
My periods for the past year are early every month, and sometimes they are lighter then sometimes heavier.
Iv also had a scan done to check my ovaries and to check for fibroids everything was fine.
My anxiety has gone worse ,im not sleeping properly, feeling hot then chilled, heart palps sometimes, pmt has gone a lot worse, muscle tension headaches, depressed more.
I have had blood tests done today for my thyroid again, allergies, fbc,.
Im just at a loss at the moment,
xx

Thank you  :)
The gp who was talking to me about menopause had probably been through the menopause herself, not being horrible by saying that but its so upsetting when you explain what is going on and being told to get on with it,
I just dont feel like me anymore.
Coupled with my youngest daughter who is 16 and has now left school and ready for college in septemeber iv got this empty feeling to,
Gosh it just sucks lols xx

Im going to give them a ring next week hun when my blood test results are back and see if i can have a chat with the main gp there she is lovely.
The problem with my practice is that when i went there 2 years ago there were 4 gp,s there and now there is only 1 ,and 1 or 2 locums.
Its a nightmare .

Hi porcia

I know how you feel too, I was having a horrendous peri meno which started about 3 years ago,I also have an underactive thyroid keep an eye on your levels as the thyroid can play up around this time, I am now taking HRT the patches which are kinder if you suffer from headaches or migraine, I had so many symptoms which at the time I had never heard of, my Mum sailed through with just a few hot flushes! I thought id be the same, but was diagnosed with ms at the same time, together with a tumor on my Parathyroid which thankfully was non cancerous.
When I woke up from surgery I could feel vibrating, and no one in the hospital could say what it was, and yes you've guessed it. It was meno symptom, I also had a cobweb feeling on the end of my nose, burning mouth sore dry eyes, palpertations doom and dread feelings, kept crying for no reason and wouldn't go out for a while .

Have you thought of trying anything HRT wise ?  I'm 48 now and no longer have any symptoms. There is light at the end of the tunnel! And there will be for you too.

Welcome!  Peri-menopause can happen at anytime, no age is 'too early'  ::) ……… add to that thyroid problems …..

Make a list of your symptoms, keep a food and mood diary for 3 months and see if there is any link.  Make sure you keep well hydrated, eat regularly, exercise when you are able to …….. have a browse of the menus, left of screen!

What blood tests has your GP arranged?  Hormones alter all the while so testing is well known for being un-reliable, one needs to go on symptoms.

Let us know how you get on!

Hi there,
Thank you both for your input :)
What i tend to find is that out of say 28 days a month i get 7 days that are ok,the rest are awful.
Iv had an allergy blood test and a fbc done at the hospital on wednesday, then thursday i have had a thyroid test, fbc again, testing for diabeties, and liver and kidney function.
I dont know if i can go on my owm mothers experience but she was around 50/52 when her menopause had finished.
I have had the burning tongue problem, dry burning eyes and today i feel as though my period is going to start even though im not due until july 4th.
I dont drink alcohol and quit smoking 6 years ago dont drink coffe only de caff tea and water, and flavoured water, pretty basic lols.
I dont eat afull meal as to be honest its to much for me and i have awful and have a reflux with it .
Im thinking of asking my gp on monday if i can give hrt a try xx

The last gp i saw who is a locum a lot older than me basically told me to just get on with it  :-\
Looked at me strange when i was telling her all of my symptoms and said to me "what makes you assume its perimenopuase" :( xx

Oh that's another thread altogether  ::) - nowt wrong with looking back, we are here because of our History  ;).  Writing down how you are now and where you thought your Life might go when you were 20 can help sort out whether we did take the right decisions …….. I have done some silly things but I think I've got it right!  It's common at this time of Life to wonder.

As for the dizziness, this could be due to a nerve trapped in the back of the neck?  I get this sometimes, makes me go 'oh' …….

Im going to mention the neck and shoulder tension on monday.
I just wish that gp,s would not skate around the obvious when it comes to menopause, stop acting as though its a taboo subject.

There are so many symptoms that can mimic what ladies go through during The Change that it is easy to be fobbed off at a time we feel extra vulnerable!

Yes sadly I understand that, when I was diagnosed a few years ago with an underactive thyroid I spent a whole year going back and forth to different gp,s having endless blood tests and being offered different brands of antidepressants to combat depression, but after changing my wording from being tired to not having any.energy I was finally sent for a thyroid test.and it was badly.underactive xxx

Hi Porcia, I too have an under active thyroid and have done for over ten years now. my medication is stable now and has been for a few years, I feel a lot better I.e. not falling asleep all the time lol but I do have other issues with it too.
I went to the Gp about three years ago with really bad anxiety, depression, heavy periods and lots of other peri symptoms too but I was dismissed as I was not old enough!! I was 44!! I had started my periods really early as I was still in primary school. She relented and said gave me a hormone test only because I took my husband with me and said 'well isn't there a test you can do? but it came back normal, I had previously been given anti depressants by another Gp in the Feb but I didn't want to go on them.....but by the time I saw the other Gp who was an older lady herself I gave in and took them, as the anxiety was stopping me from going out on my own and even dreading going to work too, I felt like I couldn't function normally.
I also went to the hospital for scans on my ovaries, womb etc and was told everything was fine and there was plenty of eggs still!!
I was given tablets to take when I had a period as they were so heavy which did help during the day but at night when I obviously didn't take one I would flood and have clots.
Since this January I have missed two periods, have had hot flushes albeit mild ones, feel anxious again and wake every morning feeling the dread of the day but I know deep down there is nothing to worry about, I also had tense nervous headaches every days for weeks too.
I went to the Gp three ago on Monday and I saw my old favourite Gp, I told her what was happening with my periods and that I'm so heavy I flood at night time and have to get up and have a shower etc and told her about how I feel and my hot flushes. Straight away she said would you like to go on HRT!! OMG I thought someone is actually taking me seriously and I said yes as I need the reassurance of having regular periods as I never know when the monthly will happen.
I've been taking Elleste Duet 1mg for nearly three weeks and two and a half weeks after my last period I have had another, at first I thought it was break through bleeding but no it's been a full on period heavy leaking and feeling generally like crap wanting to cry and just go and lock myself in a room on my own.
So I know how your feeling and you feel as if your talking to yourself. Maybe it's because I'm 47 now that I'm being taken more seriously I don't know.
Early days yet but I shall give them a go, I just don't want periods like this every month.
I had my yearly Thyroid blood test on Wednesday so we'll see what the results are I've been on 100mcg of thyroxine a day, and at one point I was on 175mcg!! and I have been losing weight over the years too which is a bonus!!

Hope you don't feel too down for too long I'm always up for a chat and go back to your GP's don't battle on like I did for three years because one dr don't want to listen and take you seriously..
Good luck
