Hello! Another newbie saying hello

Hi All,

Great fan of this site - you've helped me a lot over the years with experiences and advice, so I thought I'd join in :)

I'm 54 & definitely post menopause (blood tests confirm). I was doing OK without HRT until a couple of months ago when the hot flushes & daily rages/tears started to get out of hand! I did some research & decided I wanted to try bio identical HRT.

I've just come back from seeing a lovely doctor who was very sympathetic. She had no idea what bio identical HRT was, but I explained as well as I could & together we googled & flicked through a very fat 'drugs' book! She also sought the advice of a senior doctor. Between us we decided I should go on Femoston at the lowest dose. She said as I haven't had a period for 4 years it would be a continuous dose so I wouldn't get a bleed.  Sounded perfect. She even thanked me for a very interesting consultation!!

However, I've just looked at the prescription & it says Femoston 1/10mg tablets. I've looked at the drug company's website & from what I can gather she should have prescribed Femoston Conti 1/5mg! So now I'm waiting for the surgery to call me back & I feel like I've wasted my time today  :'( ... and it all seemed to be going so well!

When I get the correct tablets I'll come back & tell you all how I get on :)

Hi and Welcome GillyG
Delighted to hear you had such a positive visit with GP - I've often found they make mistakes with prescriptions - I'm sure it won't take long to have a new one drawn up  and hopefully your chemist will have it in stock. Femoston is a good one to try to start with as the progesterone is a kinder one and well tolerated by many women.
I bet you will start to feel better within a couple of weeks. Do let us know how you get on.  DG x

Thanks Dancinggirl -  as it happens, the surgery just called - the doctor did make a mistake & is very sorry - my new prescription will be ready to collect tomorrow.

I'll definitely report back on how things progress :)
