I recently bought a juice extractor and it's great - a small glass of homemade apple juice is heavenly (and tastes much better than shop bought), especially when you can't face eating anything. The natural sugar keeps those energy levels up for ages.

Pears? Pear juice is lovely and sweet. You can juice just about anything. I've just made some carrot and ginger.

Strangely enough, I don't like much fruit either - I only eat it occasionally and much prefer veggies. But I love fruit juice.

Hi Tabbycat

I hate to say this but too much fruit juice is bad for you! Although fruit contains fruit sugar - and therefore more natural than refined glucsoe and sucrose, the amount you take in from fruit juice is far greater than you would take in from fruit, as you stomach would fill up quickly from fruit.

You can eat as much fresh fruit as you like and it won't do you any harm (maybe affect your digestion if you're not used to it or have sensitive gut!) but fruit juice should probably really be limited to one small glass a day.

Too much could also give you a sugar hit and maybe also lead to the same highs and lows in blood sugar as you would from eating excess other sugary foods.

Here is a newspaper article:

I'm sure carrot juice is fine though - in moderation!

I know, Hurdity, that's why I said a small glass of apple juice! TBH, I can't drink a lot of it anyway, the flavour is so intense that I only want a small amount - even carrot juice. But it's a nice way to start the day, especially if you don't feel like eating anything.

I always juiced apples and carrots together (pips and all)  and drink a whole jug daily  as it is best drunk fresh, nothing quite like it, I use to save pulp though to make carrot and apple cake.

I am afraid I have gotten lazy now as there are so many delicious whole fruit juices you can buy, Waitrose are especially good. If you buy a smoothie maker (next on my list) you use the whole of the fruit and its even healthier, a good way to drink (eat) a variety of fruit and veg :)

Blending fruit is another way to make drinks and you can add yogurt or buttermilk to make it delicious.

I've found, sadly, that since I had the bowel upset last year following antibiotics I can't eat much fruit or drink much fruit juice at all. The doc said that it is the sugar in it which upsets the bowel and that I should concentrate on eating veg and leave out the fruit. I do so love fruit though  :(
