Awful nausea before period
« on: May 28, 2014, 04:02:43 PM »

Hi everyone,
I am taking femoston 2/10 for 4 weeks now. Just finishing the first pack and all of a sudden today i feel awful nausea all day. I guess this is because i should be expecting a bleed after 3-4 days when I finish this pack. Anyone with similar experience? I have begun to wonder whether this is because of hormone changes toward the end of the cycle, or because of the HRT? I was supposing that Femoston will help me as I was getting nauseas well before I started on HRT , probably in the past 3 months.

But have never before that had any problems or discomfort prior to the bleed, just probably sore breasts and some water retention.

If someone has had nausea prior to bleed, what do you take to releave it? I've tried mint drops, and some homeopathy but no relief thus far.

You help will be much appreciated

Hello Milamam.

I am sorry I can't offer any advice about the nausea but I am interested in your replies as I am having the same problem at the moment. I am on patches and every day I wake up feeling sick and this usually lasts until lunch time. I also experienced this before HRT and likened it to morning sickness.

Like you, I hope the knowledgeable ladies on this site can be of help and I do sympathise as it is a horrible feeling.

Take care.

It's because your body is suddenly hungry due to the surge of hormones.  I had this during the 10-14 days prior to each period   â€¦â€¦..   NAPS advised me to eat every 3 hours.  When you get up for a bathroom visit in the night have a biscuit/2 before going back to sleep.  If you do more exercise eat a sandwich afterwards.  This has to be done ALL MONTH round! so keep blood sugar levels even.

I found dried fruits and nuts, bananas, Cream Crackers, porridge, RichT biscuits …….. all helped but it took 3 months before I remembered to eat throughout the 24 hours  ;)

Keep hydrated.  Exercise regularly.  DON'T forget to eat regularly ………  ;)

CLKD, thanks , i think I am doing all what you advise. Yesterday it was worst in the evening. This morning a little bit but calmed it down with homeopatic drops. My puzzlement is whether this is because of drop in estrogen , or rise/drop of progesterone toward a few days before a bleed. Not that I can do anyhing but knowing the symptom will make it easier to endure and also discuss with the gynea next month. I also have this all,of a sudden drop in energy and get-go, and feel totally different from just a few days ago. I guess the HRT just has't fully kicked in yet. I go from full of energy and thinking "This is it, it is working, i feel definitely better" to full of despair and self-pitty today that things are again down for me.

I guess I just have to be patient. It is so hard not knowing how you will be on the next day.

Sorry for the long moan!

Milamam nausea has been my worst symptom 24/7 pre hrt & after. I am looking into foods to counteract too much estrogen as it has been so severe for over a year now. I have a mint or a cheeky brandy & keep busy. I always keep regular mealtimes & have even put weight on!  It is just like in pregnancy I cannot take big tablets without gagging which happened then too. No baby though & it doesn't go away  >:( >:(

The nausea has slightly improved today - knock on wood! I try to eat frequently, and salty snacks. I also used homeopatic drops , seems that they have worked. I am still so confused as to whether this is really high estrogen or low estrogen- related. Was trying to read over google today but there are so many contradictory opinions.

Have you tried wearing sea bands. They press on the acupuncture points on your wrists. I used them in early pregnancy and found them really good. Ginger is helpful as is peppermint tea.

Actual acupuncture can help with nausea.

Keep off the alcohol!  it's a depressant as well as being full of sugar

Begin eating regularly NOW! even if you begin to feel better.  It's a 24/7 idea to keep sugar levels even, if you read the cycling/walking magazines you may find recipes which help.

I remember the crashing fatigue too  >:(

It's more like pregnancy nausea CLKD. Eating all the time sometimes does not help.

I remember it well and its horrible. Not enough to make you sick but enough to make you feel pretty yuk. Unlike in pregnancy you can take pills to help. Have you asked your GP for some anti nausea medication.

I have tried 3 different anti nausea meds from the GP & they didn't work. However I haven't tried them since last September so now I feel more stable I will report back the difference they make on my next extreme day. B x

Yeah, its more like pregnancy nausea, and also feelings of fatigue and unwillingness to do anything.... I remember with my second child that I felt like that in the first months, and was begging the gynea to give me something for relief.,she didn't , of course! At the time I was taking additional progesterone as I was low even before conception.

Let's see, i still have one pill to take tomorrow from the first pack of Femoston, and hopefully my period will come within a few days. Should have relief after that. I hope so as we are going on a trip next Friday and I will need the energy.

Alchohol - when I feel like this cannot even think about a glass. I do usually have  a glass of wine with dinner but these days even the dinner is hard to get through in my stomach. Oh well, thank you ladies for all the advices. Bev, what worked for me yesterday were homeopatic drops called Vomitosheel. I don't know whether you can find them in the UK. You can take 10 drops every 30 min until the situation improves. This has been a remedy that I have used with both my children and myself very frequently. There are also suppositories from the same preparation which act even faster.

Will have a look for those drops thank you, what a name! I am the same when I feel really bad I cannot even tolerate a mint & I couldn't drink any alcohol for many months last year.
I tried for 12 yrs to conceive after my first baby & I can remember feeling so ill I thought about not being able to continue it was that bad when I finally got pregnant. I felt poisoned & that's how peri
started for me. I am trying to accept it now rather than fight it. Hope you get some relief very soon. B x

Hi bev567910/Milamam

Just wondered how you're both doing now? Do you still get the nausea or did it ease? Did you ever work out if it was low or high estrogen (if either) causing it? Did HRT help?

Would be really interested to hear your stories, B x

Hi Briony not worked it out yet but I am not a lover of going to the GP to ask. I still struggle but not as bad as it was. I still feel extra nausea it is akin to pregnancy things you could deal with normally set you off. I am not good with nausea so it makes me feel anxious. I suck a polo, sip a brandy etc. I am sure it will go one day & be back to normal levels when things have settled down. It can be so debilitating some days but I just keep busy, never miss meals & sometimes a salty snack helps.
How do you cope? Is it affecting your day to day life? B x
