Wanted to share
« on: May 13, 2014, 09:28:26 PM »

Just wanted to share. Since being told I was insulin resistant, I have followed a low carb diet and have lost a stone. My trousers have have got rather baggy. So I have had to go shopping and had to buy a size smaller. Shame my boobs haven't shrunk as well....... Still my husband likes my new shape.

Looks like we are in the wide awake club tonight.

Which diets have you both followed? Or did you make your own method up?

I sometimes do the 5/2 fast diet just to maintain my weight

What tips did you learn about weight loss?

Linsey44, I dieted myself, keeping an eye on my calorie intake using an app on my computer. Also went swimming about 3/4 times a week. It levelled off after 8 months, just before I went on holiday. I've not kept such a close eye on it since. New clothes I bought still fit.

I try to avoid sugar, including keeping fruit to a minimum, and only with meals. I avoid high carb foods. I start the day with egg, which means I don't experience debilitating low sugar episodes. When I go out for a meal, I am more relaxed. I am wheat intolerant anyway, so being careful and cooking from scratch most of the time is already a way of life. I do feel better, though a bit bloated this morning as we ate out last night and I ate too much!

Well done Ju Ju :congrats: !

It's great to lose extra weight at our age and hard work too!

Hope you manage to keep it off.

I keep my weight down by eating very little fat (no butter on bread, almost no cheese, skim milk, low fat meats/fish), almost no sugar (except fruit sugar in fruit as I eat a lot of this) and mostly only complex carbs (wholemeal bread, noodles, muesli). Not much alcohol (I can't tolerate much of this anyway). Heaps of fruit and veg, beans, pulses, nuts etc. This means I can eat cake (and chocolate!) and go out for meals, eat fish and chips (!) etc now and again without worrying at all. I am only losing a tiny amount of weight but at least not putting any on. I think I will have to do this for ever - but I don't mind (I'm short so every pound shows).

Great that you have lost the weight, have read recently that too many carbs and sugar are most likely cause of inflammation in our bodies which then leads to all the health issues, I am permanently on 5;2 though dont stick to 500 cals on diet day more like 800 and it keeps me in check , remember that good fats are not the bad guys , we need them to help with Vit D absorption amongst other things.  5:2 also helps with diabetes. 8)

Hi winterose
I find fasting quite easy to do as I spend less time thinking about food unlike being on a more constant low cal/ low fat diet, and its true what they say about it you stop feeling hungry after a while.

sometimes I follow the 16/8 hr eating pattern as well which if you eat over the allocated 500 cal this might suit you as well.

I agree that we need good fats especially to plump up our skin.

Enjoy the rest of the date all you slim people.

I am at last feeling a gap between my upper thighs and my tummy is flatter, just eating less, small portions, actually have lost any cravings, never snack between meals, if I have something sweet its always after a protein meal. Drinking lots of water with lemon juice seems to help. I eat a lot of nuts and only one piece of bread a day, made in to a half protein  sandwich with apple celery and salad, I make sure I have this daily.

Eating out I am careful with what I order and don't have sweet, would rather get one from the supermarket on the way home, I like caramel custard or berries in jelly, not forgetting chocolate mouse :)

I don't eat after seven o'clock and usually have breakfast about eight or nine, even then I don't feel very hungry so for me its a sort of fast.

I dry skin brush daily , I have revolving electric one ( rechargeable) that makes it so easy and quick, it firms the skin and give a feeling of weight loss too.

All in all feel much lighter then I did at the beginning of the year.

Well done to you all for losing some weight - I'm still struggling with mine since stopping smoking, hence going jogging last night!

Greyhound I have not weighed myself, I might be in for a shock if I did, I just feel lighter and my clothes are looser so hoping its so.

I have a Wifit but don't go on it much because that little Minnie Me used to practically insult me and was quite sarcastic ;D

I have started going to yoga classes for the first time. Maybe 60 is the new 40. Never did much in the way of sport, in fact the joke in my family is that they have never seen me run! I loathed going to the gym and found I was I was exhausted for the rest of the day. Yoga suits me and I am surprised when the session finishes. I have a wifit and have never used it. Next thing to do? I can always be sarcastic back!!  Tried on some clothes that I haven't been able to wear for a long time and they fit! It's like having lots of new clothes.  :)
