Hi Hurdity,  :)
I'm not really sure what you're trying to point out?

Are you saying that, as a 'newbie' I shouldn't be talking about subjects that have already been discussed and debated?
If that were the case, then there would be no point in new members joining!
Not trying to start something, just a bit confused here.

I realise it must be a bit tiring to see the same old topics churned up,  again and again and again, - but you have to remember that what is stale to you, is still fresh to us!

When you get new members joining, everything seems new to them and they are a bit too enthusiastic about it maybe (guilty as charged)- but I think in some ways its a good thing - (although admit it must be frustrating for the long-standing members  :)

I can see why the NICE charman says to be more assertive with your doctor if they are refusing to give you something you need, but being assertive with your doctor is very difficult, if not impossible.

I no longer need to try a different HRT, because for the last two and a half weeks, I have not been eating gluten lo and behold, my own HRT is finally doing what I need it to do very nicely, thankyou.
IBS - gone, flushes - gone, sweats - gone, for over two weeks now.

For those who need to be assertive to their doc, it is perfectly reasonable to say, "According to NICE guidelines, I have a right......."

What if, however, you are in a situation where your doctor is short with you just for mentioning HRT, like mine was when I initially asked for HRT and made a request for bio identical oestrogen and progesterone, before I ever went onto HRT.

How can you possibly be assertive to someone who is already short with you for mentioning HRT.
How can a 60+ year old woman, denied hrt, assert her right to have the missing hormones replaced for as long as she wants, when the doctor is already irate?

As soon as someone gets irate, my assertiveness goes out the window.

Dandelion, it's not easy! :(

As some of the women have pointed out - You are already in a fragile state of mind, the minute you walk through their door, and, if the Doctor has an attitude to start with, it's nigh on impossible to be assertive!

Its very difficult :(
I know with myself, I go with the intention of saying things in a calm,  assertive way, but as soon as I walk through that door, I can feel myself starting to tear up! :'(

Bl...y hormones!

Hi Cool

I was once dependent on diazepam, and had to go through a long taper process which was an ordal.
She told me I could take diazepam every few days and not get addicted, so, when I suddenly stopped it, I got traumatic withdrawals and had to get a drug worker (who only dealt with heroin and alcohol) to persuade her to prescribe me enough to wean off safely.

When my doctor and me were discussing oestrogen, she said that we didn't want another situation like the diazepam.
Diazepam is an addictive drug and oestradiol is a hormone, so wtf was she on about!?
As she was being very short with me and irate, I did not want to say this.
I said in other posts, she made me feel like I was asking for a class A drug.
Thank god my Femoston has finally decided to kick in.
I was too scared of the only other HRT options available to me, norethisterone containing preparations, due to the bad emotional effects.

Try another doctor? Fear of out-of-the-frying-pan-into-the fire.
The practice allows you to see different doctors buut also likes you to stick with the same doctor when dealing with a specific complaint, for instance, not changing doctors to talk about the same complaint.

Having been on the forum for a long while now I can honestly say we do go over the same things over and over again.....But....we help and encourage and we also learn as new information becomes available from official sources. New members bring a different take and ideas to the forum time and time again.

I was a new member once and remember the kindness and advice from all. It was a bit of a life line to be honest and I accepted the help and advice that was on offer.

Sometimes you really have to stop and think and re read before you post as the written word is very static and can be misinterpreted very easily.

We generally go for a gentle approach on MM.  None of us are perfect but the quiet reasoned approach and response generally works quite well.

Dandelion, I'm reading a lot of good reports about Femoston!  (You're about the 4th person to say really good things about it.)
If, at my 3 month check, I'm not gelling with the Elleste Duet - I might ask to try that next!

(although - touch wood - it seems to be kicking in (10 days now!)

...........  and then, I will be ALL Sweetness & Light!! ::)  (hopefully) :).........................................

until I reach the dreaded GREEN PILLS   which I am hearing horror stories about! eek!

Perhaps we will be able to offer some helpful advice to you coolatlast when the time comes and then if you have to return to your GP you will know what to ask for.

There are a lot of very knowledgeable ladies on the forum with a lot of experience which as a newbie to meno you may find invaluable.

This forum has been very good to me over the last few years, especially when I've needed it most.

We all learn new things from time to time, but generally many ladies offer whatever support they can, even if we don't know fully what's going on with our bodies. If it wasn't for the help & support I've had on here, I'd be lost.

Lots of things I didn't know about. Good doctors recommend this site because we are knowledgeable & learn from each other.

Thanks Ladies!
I've read lots of good reports about Elleste on Mumsnet but not so much on here! :-\ (seems to be more about Femiston)

Cubagirl - You say that a lot of Doctors recomend this site.   Do you think many of the Doctors come on here?

It would be interesting to know.
You would think it would be a wealth of information to them.

p.s.   100th poster should get a prize!  ;D

The GP who gave me HRT knows about this site, said "yes I  know about it, it's good I use it"

I've read the entire thread and it seems that the point is missed that repetition is not the same as boring, but may, in fact, be reassuring.   Also the test of time has proven MM with its members of varying opinions generally strives to be helpful.  I think that acceptance of the not perfect NHS or Medicare in the US does not mean passivity but instead members just try to find a way with working through the systems in place.  Men have to deal with prostate cancer and the opinions on treatment are as diverse as those pro and con HRT or ERT.

I totally agreed with Hurdity's  post, which seemed to wrap things up nicely.  I personally think that finding disagreement with her post may be an attempt to stir up things and then I start wondering about the occasional visits of those who enjoy arguing for arguing's sake.

Hmm.  I know even long term members often don't agree with each other but we do it in kind ways nearly all the time.  There are new members almost daily and I've never seen the usual new member mistreated in any way.  Usual is the key word here.

To Trey!

I'm confused -  (and it doesn't take much to confuse me)  You talk like an Administrator or Moderator:- pointing out all the rules and regulations of the forum ,  but

it doesn't say 'Administrator' under your name  ???    Why is that?

Who is the Administrator, (just out of curiosity?)
