I can see why the NICE charman says to be more assertive with your doctor if they are refusing to give you something you need, but being assertive with your doctor is very difficult, if not impossible.
I no longer need to try a different HRT, because for the last two and a half weeks, I have not been eating gluten lo and behold, my own HRT is finally doing what I need it to do very nicely, thankyou.
IBS - gone, flushes - gone, sweats - gone, for over two weeks now.
For those who need to be assertive to their doc, it is perfectly reasonable to say, "According to NICE guidelines, I have a right......."
What if, however, you are in a situation where your doctor is short with you just for mentioning HRT, like mine was when I initially asked for HRT and made a request for bio identical oestrogen and progesterone, before I ever went onto HRT.
How can you possibly be assertive to someone who is already short with you for mentioning HRT.
How can a 60+ year old woman, denied hrt, assert her right to have the missing hormones replaced for as long as she wants, when the doctor is already irate?
As soon as someone gets irate, my assertiveness goes out the window.
