MOnthly cycle

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today. Has anyone else experienced a monthly cycle that varies. I had regular monthly period for about a year to 18 months every 23 days. Then I had the odd one where I went 28 days. The last 3 cycles have been 17 days and then I went about 30 days now back to 17 days. I also get sharp pains in my left side just before I satart to bleed. I got diagnosed with a dermoid cyst last year and dont know whether to back to my my gp. Feeling very tired.

Yes Debbie - it's usually the first sign of meno. Mine varied from every two weeks to once in eight months and back to once a month again quite a few times. You do get used to it but it is strange when you are used to your body running like clockwork.
If the pain is new then I should go back to your GP in case the cyst has grown.

Yes just the same! I had a regular 28 day cycle until the age of 50 then things started going a bit haywire. Sometimes longer cycles up to 3 months and then back to a couple of regular periods and then I'd have them sometimes as close together as every 14 days. At aged 52 I was given the blood test to test for menopause and it came back normal!! As in not menopausal!! I couldn't believe it. Apparently it's not very accurate though and varies depending on the day of the cycle the blood test is taken on I think. I wish I'd known about this site earlier as I was then sent off for a hysteroscopy to check everything was OK. It was and the gynecologist told me it must be the menopause! I was having no other symptoms at the time so I reckon it is the first sign.
I realise it's best to check these things out but if I'd known to expect this I perhaps wouldn't have seen my doctor so soon.
That's now 5 years ago and I continued like this until last April when I had a period and then another one 28 days later in May even though it had been 8 months since my last one. I started on hrt this Feb. as I'd been having horrible sweats and mood swings and couldn't stand it any longer but I'd only gone 9 months and so technically I'm not post menopausal but probably I am now.
Yes it might be best to get the cyst checked again X

Yes, me too!
My cycle changed from about 30 days to about 26 days, then 3 monthly. Are you the usual age for perimenopause? That is, those years of awful periods that come before they eventually stop?!

Yep Im 54 much too 'old' to be peri menopausal. So pleased that I have the whole menopause thing to do yet! But hey, Im alive and not alone. I think sometimes we all need a bit of tlc and support from other women who are going through the same and know EXACTLY how we feel. Thank you so much for your supportive kind comments.

While you are still having your cycle you may be keeping the more problematic menopause symptoms at bay. I know lots of women (me included) who would love to have kept their periods for as long as possible as it was only when they stopped that we started feeling so grotty.

I have had periods for over a year now, since adjusting after coming off the pill.
They are fairly random, but usually around or under 3 weeks.
Since Christmas, it has been reduced to spotting every 2-3 weeks, then a 32 day gap, then a period. I am not now sure what is a period and what isn't
I have been charting, but to be honest, it has been no help in predicting what is going to happen.
