Adrenaline Rushes!
« on: May 04, 2014, 09:24:51 AM »

Hi everyone,
I have not been on the site for months now, maybe a year due to one thing and another..............life!!!

Anyway, I have been put on HRT again after 2 yrs of coming off as I wasn't sure it was working for me as I kept continuously spotting, plus the Dr I was seeing was not even interested, so thought I was totally wasting my time.
I have been put back on the Elleste Solo 40 patch as I have a Mirena (my 3rd & hopefully, fingers crossed, last) fitted.

My symptoms were total exhaustion and intense muscle/joint fatigue/aches, so irritated!  The Dr I saw took all my symptoms first then upped my Sertraline 50mg to 100mg (which I take for panic attacks, been on for quite a few years now), this did not help, only made me more fatigued through the day.  He then suggested trying HRT again, and I was very reluctant due to my past experience with the other Gp - so he, quite rightly said "well looking back at your notes, you were not reviewed correctly" - so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought I would give it another go!

The first month after the second week, I felt so much better, then the 4th week, started feeling a little tired again! Went for my review at the 4th week and told him this, he said that was quite normal and I was to try it for 6 months then go back and see him for my second review!

Well, whilst I was working (I am a self-employed beauty therapist) I started with a massive adrenaline rush, like I used to have before a panic attack - I had to leave my client to take some deep breathes and calm myself down, then I was totally freezing and felt so sick & shaky! I managed to finish with my client then all I could do was go to bed for the rest of the afternoon - I was so cold, shaky, nauseas and headache!  I am sure this is what I had to contend with last time - so now I am petrified that this is going to happen whilst I am with my clients.

That was Friday and yesterday I felt a little off with headache and today I have got up feeling quite yuck again and headache (not sure if this could be coffee withdrawal, not had one since Friday morning - but think that caffeine really does not help at the mo) and quite sicky again!

Or, maybe I am reading too much into it and it is just a bug - I hate the adrenaline/panic rush!
Is this normal - I am so fed up of feeling crap!

Many thanks for reading  :-* x

I would think it's adrenaline!  You are able to tell your Clients you know, explain that you may have a hot flush-type of moment ……. you may find they do too  ;)

It's difficult to weigh up what helps and what we don't want to tolerate in the way of side-effects!

Sounds more like a bug to me. Adrenaline rushes come, make you feel horrible and then go. You say you are still feeling off so that's what makes me think you are a bit unwell.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi CLKD & honeybun,

I had a good think back to what had happened on the friday:
a) I had not eaten til 12
b) had only had 3 mugs of coffee (i have very strong - bean to cup coffee)

I had a think back to when i had them at previous times and again, i had not eaten, or only had a snack!

It may well have been a mixture of a bug too as a couple of clients have said that they have not been well.

I feel much better today  :)

Decided to come off the coffee all together as it does not help my anxiety issues at time and I understand that caffeine is not a good whilst in the menopause! I have also cut down on sugary products too!

I think i tend to blame everything on the HRT & I understand that HRT is not a 100% cure for everything menopause - I think due to me having issues & problems with the contraception pill in the past, i assume that my issues are due to HRT   :-\

Thank you for your posts - really appreciate it!

Just have headache this morning. I know this is due to my caffeine withdrawal, so I am going to persevere with that as i have been wanting to come off coffee for a while now  ;)

Caffeeine can cause adrenaline and a general malaise - I dont' drink it often but had a cup 2 days ago and didn't want anything to eat all day:apparently it's a food suppressant  :-X

Will tell OH that. He's still a couple of stone overweight and drinks "proper" coffee all day. I'll tell him not to give it up or he will be the size of a house!!

Many years ago- about 40- my dad then aged about 45 - was sent to see a cardiologist because he was having palpitations and feeling very odd.
He was diagnosed as being perfectly fit but drinking too much coffee. The caffeine can really play havoc with your body especially if you have more than say 2-3 cups a day.
It can cause irregular heart beats, palpitations and of course insomnia and jittery feelings.

It sounds as if you have been overdoing the coffee, but also by having too much and on an empty stomach, when maybe you had gone for 16 hours without food(?) from the night before, and your blood sugar would be very low.

Caffeine withdrawal can make you feel terrible - especially if you've been having strong coffee. Headache, tension, irritability and craving (for caffeine) are usual. When it's happened to me on holiday when I don't tend to drink much caffeine - I find that a drink (alcoholic!) early in the evening gets over the worst symptoms  ;D

For me the withdrawal only lasts a couple of days and then I'm fine ( as long as I have my morning tea of course! :) )

I had never noticed that effect with coffee before, I really fancied something other than T or hot chocolate  :-\ and the coffee smelt good so I had a frothy coffee thingy ....... capo-whateverit's called ......... it left an acid taste and put me right off my grub  :D

I used to have adrenaline rushes - hot water through all the veins in my body  :o, a really scarey feeling until I realised what it was !

I've found I can't drink coffee since I had that upper UTI last Autumn where the antibiotics really upset my system. I also still can't have ice cream or more than a small amount of milk such as in my tea. Can no longer have cereals which I think is again the milk. I hope that eventually this will settle down again but it's taking a long, long time. I do miss my lattes.

I went off coffee when I was pregnant and never really went back on it. I have recently discovered Red Bush Tea and I love it.

I've tried that on and off since 1998 when I worked with a teacher from South Africa but I still don't like it sadly.
