Wish I had found you years ago!
« on: April 25, 2014, 06:07:09 AM »

Hello everyone, great to be here. Even though I have worked with communities, somehow it did not occur to me to find a menopause one. Anyway here I am, 55 and just come off the combined Evorel Sequi and Evorel Conti regime. My doctor prescribed FemSeven Conti, and it was marvellously good. A great improvement. I realised I had been having headaches for years on Evorel, but had been so busy with marriage breakdown, single parenthood etc that I had not connected the two. On FemSeven I was fine, but then they have stopped making it! I was given Evorel Conti, but headaches came back immediately. I am now on Femoston Conti, pills, and the headaches are back with a vengeance, always on waking. Also, it does not appear to control the hot flushes really, although I am sleeping fine and feel perfectly ok otherwise, moodwise. Does anyone have any advice? I think the progesterone element in FemSeven Conti suited me much better, it was the one beginning with L. I will have to come off it altogether if I can't get rid of the headaches. But my life is so crazy, and busy, I don't really have time for debilitating lack of sleep and hot flushes! Thanks for any help.

Hi Tigony - welcome to the forum.

Just a quick reply but Femseven is still available. There was a problem with supply a few weeks ago but it has not been withdrawn and our local pharmacy has now got it back in stock. Are you in the UK?

Yes I am in the UK. That is brilliant news. I will contact my doctor for a new prescription. I do find the patches fall off very easily though. Can you advise?

lyn has been told that hers are now available http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,24378.msg372138.html#msg372138  so hopefully yours will be too.

Do you follow the instructions as to how to apply them? It's really important to hold them firmly in place with the palm of your hand for the time specified but, even then, they can fall off. I think they should make them to be changed twice a week like Evorel.

Hi Tigony

Welcome from me too

The good news is if you can tolerate levonorgestrel in the Femseven - then have you thought of the Mirena coil which contains the same one? For most women the hormone (from the coil) isn't absorbed appreciably into the system - and would be less than with the Femseven patches I imagine. If you had this then you could take your pick of oestrogen types - for example Estradot patches which are very small, changed twice weekly, and stick very well, or oestrogen gel whcih is applied daily and some women prefer.

Just a thought....

Hello, thanks for all the very useful advice. I have always been rather alarmed about coils, and way beyond needing contraception too. What is other's experience of them? It does sound like a good solution, because I clearly do not tolerate other progesterones well. I literally had no idea that that was why I had headaches until I stopped the Evoral and went on to FemSeven. I have now been back to the chemist who said they had stopped being made, and she was very helpful and rang up and found they are now being made by someone else and supplies have resumed! So I will apply more carefully and have another go, and thanks for your kind advice and help.
