Another Newbie to say hello and ask about livial
« on: April 22, 2014, 01:46:25 PM »

Hi everyone

Just wanted to say hello in advance of probably asking loads of questions over the next few months.

Had hysterectomy last year and BSO 3 weeks ago and am aged 44 so entered the unknown world of surgical menopause, so far its been not too bad few hot flushes and teary moments but guess that's just par for the course, I imagine it will probably get worse before it gets better.

I am pretty limited as to natural options due to having faulty BRCA2 gene and after much deliberating today I started HRT - livial which I wasn't thrilled about having read lots of negative opinions online.  I know everyone is different but I would be interested in hearing if some of you ladies experiences of livial whether they are good or bad.

Thanks in advance

Hi Linsey44

Just wanted to say  :welcomemm: and sorry to hear about your health problems - and particularly that you are unable to take conventional HRT.

I have no experience of livial so hopefully there will be someone else along who does. The one good thing about taking it with a hysterectomy is that you don't need to worry about any effect on the womb lining, as possible thickening is cited as one of the side effects or long term effects for some women. I read that it also helps to protects bones against osteoporosis.

However I don't want to sound alarmist but the information on Livial does say: "Your prescriber may only prescribe this medicine with special care or may not prescribe it at all if you:.... have a family history or other risk factors for developing breast cancer or any cancer that is sensitive to oestrogen" I assume your GP or specialist gynae will ensure you are monitored regularly and you yourself will take special care in this regard ie re examining your breasts regularly? Apologies if you know this already.

I do hope it works for you and that you manage to avoid some of the worst menopause symtpoms, and hope you have a good recovery from your operation.

Thanks Hurdity.

I seen this warning on the livial leaflet and will ask consultant when I see him in a couple of weeks.

BRCA2 carriers can take HRT safely for 5 years, reason consultant picked livial was because hyst last year was due to adenomyosis.

Spoke too soon re BSO recovery, awaiting NHS 24 got pain and what feels like hard lump in lower pelvis, hopefully just a temp setback.

Thanks again x

Hi and welcome Linsey44
I've just read you posts and hope the pain in your abdomen wasn't a complication after your op.
I just wanted to say that I tried Livial and actually found it great ( good for the libido as well) - the only reason I moved to a different HRT was because I broke out in teenage type spots (I was always prone when young) - so if you are prone to outbreaks of spots that can be a nuisance.
I have just read the info about Livial on this site and it says the risk factors for breast cancer are the same as Oestrogen only treatment which is less than with other combination HRTS.   Do read up all the info under the headings to the left of this screen because it will arm you with essential knowledge.  Good luck  DG x
