So Dizzy
« on: March 30, 2014, 08:21:03 PM »

I just took Utrogestan 200mg orally  for seven days and I am so very dizzy.  I feel dizzy when I stand up, when I sit down, when I lie down, when I sit up.   Nearly fell over a couple of times.    I stopped taking it on Friday but I'm still dizzy today.  I usually take it vaginally and don't feel dizzy taking it that way, thought I would try it orally this time , don't think I will be doing it again.

Any one else get this side effect....I presume its from the utrogestan....

It may be a virus. I have had virus's like that they effect your inner ear and are so annoying  :( I am feeling a bit off sick, dizzy but I am sure its a virus not utrogestan.

My sister had this kind of virus recently. She was so dizzy and felt so sick she could not even get out of bed. It lasted for a good few days before she felt better. It was an inner ear thing.

I get severe dizziness from the ultrogestan and I take it vaginally! It usually goes about 3 or 4 days after I've stopped taking it! It doesn't freak me out anymore cause I now know exactly what's causing it!

Many thanks for the replies.....I think it may be the utrogestan because its a co-incidence if its a virus at the time of taking utrogestan.   I didn't get the dizziness until I had taken it for about 5 days then it started to get worse.  It was very bad last night but slightly better today.   My husband says a couple of people at work say there is a virus going around that causes dizziness so I guess it could be that.   I am beginning to loathe the progesterone phase of hrt.....wish I had no uterus.....never thought I would say that!!!    I was fine taking 100mg for seven days but I have doubts this is enough because I get no bleed.

I couldnt handle the 200mg it was so strong and gave me terrible tinnitus with resultant dizziness. Why dont you just take the 100mg for longer, as I am doing, now taking it for 12 days instead of the 200mg.

Interesting that the medication can make a girl dizzy, I suppose some of us probably had dizzyness/light headed feelings during our menstruating years  :-\

Why does everyone always blame a 'virus' ?

Thanks Cassie, I will try this next time....Does this result in a bleed for you?  I tried it for one month but I didn't get a bleed, maybe I don't need a bleed every time....            Hopefully the dizziness does go away eventually?

I agree there is a dizzy virus going about! I had it! Doctor thought it was bppv. It took 2 weeks before it developed into what I realised was a virus. Was also taking utrogestan for some of that time. I am the last person to think anything is a virus because I don't usually get them.

CLKD - it is usual to go through the possibilities what it could be - and virus is logical as is the utrogestan!!!

Meeka did you take it at night or daytime? If you take it in the day - night-time is recommended for side effects such as dizziness. Also if you are already taking it at night - you could ask the doc to prescribe you 100 mg which you could split - one at night and the other in the morning to see if this helped (if it isn't a virus of course  ;) ).

Hi Hurdity,

I took 200mg utrogestan at night for seven days, stopped taking it on Friday but I am still dizzy today....

I have been taking it vaginally for about 5 months but thought I would try the oral route this month to see if it was easier and if the bleed was any different.

Maybe it is a virus.....not sure yet.   Thanks  for the reply...

Yes I always get a bleed even when I only took it for 7 days. Could be a problem with your middle ear, or low blood pressure. Shouldnt be the Utro causing it.

Dizziness is the latest symptom to hit me and I don't like it!!

Just started last week when I rolled over in bed, only lasted a few seconds then I was ok. Then it happened again when I got up ( probably too quickly ) in the middle of the night to go to the loo, again only lasted a couple of seconds but had to sit on edge of bed and gather myself! Feel fine rest of time, just when I'm lying down it seems to start. Have added another pillow so I'm not completely flat and ease myself up slowly out of bed and it hasn't happened since but I am very wary. I do have low blood pressure, always have done and was prone to fainting when I was pregnant so guess it's the dreaded hormone surges. Haven't had a period now for almost 3 years so was hoping I was clear of anymore symptoms but obviously not.

dizziness very well known side effect of progesterone. My HRT dose isn't enough to make me feel dizzy but the doses I used to take with IVF made me very wobbly. It's horrible but your body should adjust to it over time

Progesterone must effect everyone differently I think, before my hyst my I used Gyclogest and Crinone and never had dizziness.

I do remember having bouts of vertigo and dizziness before I used prescribed  hormones.
Doctor diagnosed Vertigo.

Post menopause and about six year ago the BPPV started, just by turning over in bed, doctor told me it had nothing to do with hormones, I made a point of asking ( I use prescribed estrogen)

Men and women suffer from this.

Forgot to add that the  side effects I had from large doses of progesterone were sleeping like a log, a sense or euphoria, putting on weight and made my breasts grow :o
