Hi everyone - I have a query. I am 54 and up until about 10 months ago I had regular but VERY. Heavy periods, because of HUGE fibroids. I had several hysteroscopies, the last one being February 2013. All were clear. Same with smears.

 After the last hysteroscopy I had a long period and took Noresthisterone, which settled and stopped the bleeding.  I took it from then on and about 4 months ago gradually reduced it. 

I had no bleeding and no flushes or anything, until a couple weeks ago when I got night sweatiness ( not too bad) and then this last week I have had my old premenstrual symptoms - tender breasts, fluid retention, period pains and the start of a period. I am really worried on two counts - firstly is this okay? I have a terrible fear of uterine cancer  and the worry had subsided but now I seem to be anxious about EVERYTHING - it's weird.

I am also terrified that I am going to have a really heavy period like I used to have - flooding everywhere etc.  I just took two noresthisterone - should I restart them?

Any advice would be so welcome as I feel like I am going mad. I am also not getting to sleep until about 3am - I always used to gave no problems getting to sleep and I gave been having nightmares.

So sorry for the long read but I don't have anyone to ask and have started crying just writing this - I never usually cry!

Have you discussed HRT with your GP. It sounds like a pretty normal meno to me. You can take the pills to stop the bleeding but that won't deal with your insomnia and flushes. Only HRT will do that. It can be a miserable time but there are answers.

There is always someone here to reassure you that you are just being normal. Anxiety has a horrible habit of starting as hormones decline. HRT can help a lot with that too.

Have a chat with your GP to discuss your options.

Sounds like very normal meno symptoms to me.  Your hormones are probably all over the place and this will make you feel anxious and weepy.  I wouldn't start the Noresthisterone again without advice - you shouldn't presume you will get heavy periods again - in fact it sounds to me as though your body is really struggling to produce enough hormones now, so you may be heading very quickly into post meno. Heavy bleeds and bad PMT type symptoms are very common in peri meno. You've had the 'all clear' very recently regarding your uterus so I really think you need to relax about that.
If your meno symptoms are getting bad then you could consider HRT but while you are still getting the odd period you may need to consider a Mirena coil as this will control any bleeding.  If you have a Mirena you can use some oestrogen in the form of gel(Oestrogel) or patches.
I'd go back to your GP and ask for a referral to a meno clinic or gynae.
