Sleep or lack of it with a topsy turvey life..
« on: March 21, 2014, 05:17:31 PM »

Uggghhh is all i can say  :(
I need sleep and i need it bad but it just wont happen anymore.

I work 3 nights a week, and have never been one of these people that came home slept all day, i always woke up 4 hrs after id gone to bed so i get up, do dinner for the evening, potter then go back to bed for 3 hrs or so. It worked for me,and i was catching up on my sleep on nights off.

yet now it doesn't matter if im trying to sleep day or night about 2 hrs after ive fallen asleep i wake up, then continue to wake up on and off.
ive gotten to the point that i feel totally exhausted today, you know when your tired and you just feel it, thats me  :-\

My sleep/ work pattern is  i work sun,mon and wed, so tues and thurs i always feel tired cos i have 4 hr sleep after work then an hour later on so i can sleep at night. so wed morn, fri sat sun i expect to feel normal(if there is such a thing lol)

Now i read through various sleep threads on here, and today i have started on starflower oil for my flushes ( they dont help the sleep either) but was wondering if anyone has any ideas if i take night kalms will it work with daytime sleeping? and will i be able to switch to taking it at night when im on nights off
i know that might be an odd question but id rather not take it in the day then feel awful all night and vice versa.

I honestly dont think ive made much sense but im hoping someone will grasp what im trying to say lol

Sleep, remind me what that is again.  :)

I have sleep problems too, but I don't work, so it's easier for me. If I'm totally exhausted I can have a nap.

Not sure what to suggest. Hubby used to work shifts and he found it hard chopping & changing sleep patterns.  Add meno to that mix, must be a nightmare. Maybe your GP could suggest something.

Hi there ,I also have sleep problems due to a disability but the menopause making it worse, ages ago my doctor gave me a relaxation CD to try and it did help.Maybe you could try nice slow music you like ,lie flat on your bed and start nice slow breaths and start to try relaxing from your toes up the legs , tummy ,hands, arms etc all the way to your head focusing on the music or  try thinking of a time you were very happy and relaxed.I was not sure of doing this but was surprised how relaxed I did feel and managed to sleep a bit better , I am not saying all be okay but maybe worth a try.Hope this helps a bit I found I was that desperate I would try anything and it costs nothing so  worth a try . :)

Hi Alib123,

I took night Kalms (plus day ones!) for palpitations and insomnia before I started hrt and they did help up to a point, but I wasn't working shifts which complicates things. Might be worth trying them to see if they relax you enough to let you drift off.

I have worked nights in the past and I know how desperate you can feel if you don't get enough sleep in the day! Had to give them up in the end. Hope you find a solution :)

You are not getting good quality sleep?  How about resting.  Trying not to concentrate on actual sleeping once you've had a doze.  The relaxation that Smudgy suggests might help too.
