Thrush......yuk.....
« on: April 29, 2014, 12:08:08 PM »

Had a phone call from my Doc last night (panic....this never happens!!!) to tell me the results from a swab test i had done along with my usual smear had come back showing i had Thrush.
I have never had this. So i went to the chemist with my prescription and received the necessary items to put in my nether regions later on (delightful!!!).
I realise it is common for anyone to get it any time but i find it a coincidence that having never had it in 38 years i have now after being told i am probably pre-meno. Has this happened to anyone else?
Sometimes i am finding this a bit hard to take in.....i hate being fine and positive one minute and then it just feels like my body has a mind of it's own and i can't stop it and i feel rubbish again.
This is just one more thing.....

Hello and welcome CP
I'm afraid it is pretty common to start getting thrush , BV and Urinary tract infections in peri and post meno as the natural flora of the vaginal area starts to atrophy so is far more prone to infections etc.
It's wise to practise ' Be kind to your bits': take showers not baths, avoid anything scented, drink plenty of water, wear cotton pants and avoid wearing very tight trousers. There are gels that can help keep the area moist and healthy - Multi gyn Actigel, Hyalofemme etc.
Try not to worry - we are here to help.  DG x

:thankyou:  thrush thrives on sugar.  It also loves when the acidity of any vaginal changes.  My worst attack was when I stopped taking the Pill and after one emergency hospital visit which involved anaesthetic, I had an attack ...... so now if I go in for elective surgery I begin eating LIVE yoghurt 10 days before.

LIVE yoghurt can readdress the various good bacteria in the gut and throughout the digestive tract.  I have used it as an 'eaten and applied' regime of course keeping both pots of yoghurt separate - the one for eating in the fridge, the other in the bathroom.  ;)

When you have stopped this current treatment have a go with the LIVE Greek yoghurt - eat several large spoonfuls daily and if the irritation continues, lay on a towel and apply internally ........ as far up as possible.  Soothing  ;)

Get yourself a bottle of acidophilus from the Health food section it contains a concentrated version of whats in yogurt and kills yeast in your system, it really does work.
