Why are you asking this question about the fire on the ferry?

well lots of people fleeing to Italy travel on ferries ……….. many are illegally trying to land

So what?  I see no relevance to these remarks.

It seems the rescue mission is ongoing at the scene of the ferry fire.  To me it is completely irrelevant why people were on the ferry and whence they originated.  I just hope no lives are lost.

The ferry is in the Adriatic off Corfu.

"The ship is owned by the Italian company VISEMAR de Navigazione and chartered to Greek ferry firm ANEK Lines SA. It runs on a route which in the summer is popular with tourists heading to the southern Greek mainland"

Hope no lives are lost, its been a sad time for too many this year.

131 rescued so far. Many stranded in lifeboats. Weather there is pretty bad too.

There are over 400 people on board - hopefully more will be taken off.  Apparently all mobile communication has been blocked to enable emergency telephone only.  Awful, awful, awful …...

Being removed by helicopter 2 at a time. Going to take an awfully long time to get them all off at that rate.

As to it being irrelevant......so many times we hear of overcrowded ships trying to make their way to another country. It quite easy to come to the conclusion that this might have been what was happening.
Don't think the comment was irrelevant before the full facts were known.


Dreadful thing to happen but hopefully there will be a successful rescue under very difficult circumstances.

They've now spotted bodies in the sea near to the flight path off the stricken plane. It's tragic, especially at this time of year, but at least the relatives will have some form of closure - if only the ones from the Malaysian Airlines plane could have some answers. Not knowing must be horrendous

Black box has been found.  Perhaps now some answers will emerge to find out why it disappeared

Pieces have been found which may be parts of the plane that disappeared

So sad, but at least it could give a sense of closure to the passengers' family and friends? My partner works in aviation and as soon as he saw the wing piece on the news, he guessed it was from a 777.
