Off HRT again and holiday from hell
« on: February 28, 2014, 10:43:39 PM »

Well, just got back from holidaying in Cuba. On my first day there two weeks ago, I took myself off the HRT Ellestre Duo. Because my rash became so bad and my skin so dry and blistery that I could not take it any longer. Mainly face and hands and neck area. I looked awful. I had no adverse reaction coming off, even though I just had my period a week before. I had a bit of slight spotting in the second week but its gone now. The flushes came back, but are not as bad as they were before going on HRT.

My doctor is on holiday so cannot see her for at least 2 to 3 weeks.

Anyway whilst on holiday I did my back in real well. Its actually my shoulder and neck. Cannot sit, walk, lie down. Hardly got any sleep. Total agony. The doctor in Cuba injected me with pain killers and subscribed muscle relaxers, some cream and a bunch of other tablets. Now since I am back the medicines are finished and the pain is back. Been to see a GP right away to get a referral to see a specialist. So hope to see one next week to sort out my neck and shoulder. I have no strength in my left arm. And this constant ache in the shoulder.

So all I did was sit and walk up or down the beach. The doctor said no exercise or anything that could jar my skeleton. This was the most boring holiday ever. I put on weight, especially around the waist. Not pleased at all.

Yeah, back to the start. It seems that something in Ellestre Duo and Prempack C does not like me. Prempack I got a rash right away. Elleste was fine the first month. When I started the second month I got an adverse reaction, but not as bad as with Prempack. Dont really know now what I can do. Guess have to wait for doc to come back from holiday.

What a shame to have your holiday wrecked! Cuba is such a great place to visit too.

I remember first time we visited Florida, we were in car crash. I had awful back pain & was given really strong painkillers. I was told to sit in jacuzzi to help pain. Didn't want to spoil everyone's holiday, so soldiered on. Rest of holiday a bit of a blur due to pain relief & as for plane trip home, well you will know how that feels. Of course by time I got home everything had seized up, pain killers were finished. GP here gave me some, but not as good. Ended up needing further xrays to make sure nothing was amiss. Still get back pain to this day.

If pain is really bad, be kind to yourself & see another GP. I had to, as pain was unbearable.

Do you know what is wrong with your back? Is it muscular?

Are you able to see a physio privately or will you wait to see a consultant?

Sorry to hear about your back Breadfruit and do hope you get that sorted and feel better soon.

Re the HRT - you have only tried a couple of tablet HRT types, so there are always patches or gel to try next. Of the tablet HRT Femoston is the one most widely tolerated but perhaps tablet HRT is not the way for you?

Make sure you read up about the different types before you see your doc (or ask us) so that you can ask for what you want.

A quick update: I actually feel fine regarding menopause. I get the odd flush in the evening in bed, but not heavy, just a slight one.

But my neck and shoulder are giving me grief. Went to my GP, he said he thinks I have rheumatoid arthritis and wanted to give me pain killers and said maybe an x-ray would help. I insisted that I get a referral to a specialist and an MRI. He was not happy and took him nearly a week to write the letter. In the mean time I went to see a rheumatologist privately (as that is the only doctor he would refer me to). The specialist said I have a trapped nerve or a muscle disorder. But need an MRI first of all, so had that this Monday. Now waiting to see the specialist again this coming Monday with the results of the MRI.

I wish I could just be stretched on a rack and all will be well. The spine just needs to be pulled. So tired because I cannot sleep properly.

My mom is coming to visit from abroad and she has spoken to her gynecologist there about me, and she gave her stuff for me to try out. Mostly patches. Theses are samples they get from the pharma companies. I may try them when I feel bad again.

I am sick and tired trying out new things all the time, because I have spent over £50 on 9 months worth of HRT which is useless to me.
