Mental rather than physical problems
« on: February 26, 2014, 02:24:05 PM »

Hi, I have just registered and I have finally worked out how to post Doh!!!!!
Anyway, heres hoping someone else out there will recognise my symptoms cos I am feeling very isolated.
I have never had hot sweats and flushing. What I do get is what I call a power surge that starts around my middle and tends to come up my arm and into my head and for approx 1 or 2 minutes sends me gaga. I can only compare it to when my parents suffered from Transient Isachemic attacks and I'm pretty confident I am not suffering those. Has anybody else had the same? I would be very interested to find out plus I would not feel quite so alone and odd!

Hi Katem,
Welcome to the forum, you are not alone and I am sorry you are feeling isolated. I get a sort of "power surge" sensation,  is a power surge accompanied with a feeling of panic and heat or just a feeling of a physical adrenalin surge? I get it when I wake at night before a hot flush.

Hi Lubylu, thanks for replying. No I don't seem to get the heat at all and the only time I tend to flush is when I've been drinking and that has been all my life rather than just the last five years. I am aged 56 and my last period was October 2013 so far(heres hoping). Sometimes I can have three or four surges in one day but most times its just once or twice and it seems to coincide with a period or when I should have been on a period (like now but without the bleeding) and it is accompagnied by the most awful feelings and anxiety, almost as if I am on a parrallell universe !!!!!!Its all very unpleasant.

I get what I call 'Headrushes' which are very weird and disorientating, they only last about 30 seconds.

I get the headrushes it's like vertigo although it doesn't last very long.  I particularly seem to get them in the supermarket and I feel as though I am going to faint although I never actually have x

Electric zaps around the skull are usuaully linked to medication.  When it happens I go 'oh' by which time the zap has passed.

Adrenaline surges can begin around the belly button - for me it is like hot water in my veins

Thanks everyone for the responses. Its good to know that I am not suffering alone. I am not on any medication but I have been in the past, including HRT, SSRI's and antidepressants. Nothing helped and the surges just continued whilst I was on medication as much as when I am not on medication as now. What I really need to know is when will these bloody episodes finish !!!!!!!Its been going on now for almost five years and really have had enough.

Have you read the menus - left of screen?  Have you found our 'funny room' ........

Thanks everyone for your info and support but I still feel very much alone because I seem to be the only woman in the world to experience the power surges/ flashes ect without sweats and flushes so I am wondering, am I experiencing menopausal symptoms or something else entirely?????? Sorry to moan on but I really have had enough. Just want to know that it does go eventually and how much longer I have to put up with it!!!!!!!

I don't think anyone can say with any certainty how long meno symptoms can last for.
I did get this kind of thing pre HRT and they were not always followed by a flush. It was a most peculiar feeling.
Have you had a check up recently, it might be worth while just making sure you general health is fine.

Go along to see your Practice Nurse for a well woman check up: blood pressure, thyroid function test, are you anaemic?  No one seems to have exact copies of symptoms as we all vary so much!  Be glad that you don't get flushes  ;) ……….. something I never had (yet) ……..
