Menopause & thyroid
« on: February 13, 2014, 08:59:20 PM »

Hi Ladies, not been on for a while as I have been feeling really ill :'(
After numerous blood tests I was told that my thyroid antibodies result is 275, but as my TSH level is 1.01, there is no need to treat and I need to wait until symptoms get worse....
I was flabbergasted, as already I am unable to work again as I am feeling so ill.. I would really appreciate some help & guidance, I did ask to be referred to an endro, but was refused this, and basically dismissed. I was also told by the doctor that they will no longer prescribe my oestrogel and will give tablets instead as it is the practice policy!! Words fail me. Cacey x

Hey

OMG what a way to be treated hun.......sounds rubbish surgery. I would suggest you call and ask to speak with the practice manager and get the policies in writing etc...If all else fails go to PALS in your area tis patient services where you can voice your findings...Or else change GP

Love and Hugs Mrs J

Hi Mrs J, I have recently moved and have already changed surgery in this area, as doctor refused me my usual hrt prescription, and said hrt causes cancer, she dismissed my high cholesterol level saying it was due to my age and refused to test thyroid, even though I had lost a stone in two weeks. As I am only 9 stone & 5ft 10, at 8 stone I looked dreadful ( my weight loss was due to the fact that I was so ill I couldn't eat!)
I am having a call back from doc tomorrow so hopefully she will throw some light on what's happening re thyroid test.... Here's hoping.........

Interesting about loss of hair, as I no longer have to shave my legs or have my eyebrows waxed! My main problems are weak muscles, tired all of the time & feeling ill with no energy. I can only walk my dogs for 10 minutes and have to return home as everything feels weak. Did the thyroxine make a difference to your symptoms?

Sorry, reading briefly as I am about to go out.  But some of your symptoms sound like an overactive thyroid, not underactive.  The treatment for underactive is thyroxine. For overactive it is something else I believe, cant check right now.

I'm afraid I struggle to understand the whole TS thing but your GP sounds awful.  is there nowhere else you can register?  Or a different GP at the same practice?  This treatment just isnt on  >:(

I was diagnosed underactive thyroid over 2 decades ago and whilst i didnt put on weight I didnt lose it either so it is a bit of a mystery as to why you have lost weight.  Are you anxious about something and is that dulling your appetite?

I didnt find a huge difference with the thyroxine either but presumably if I stopped it (which would be a very bad idea) I would as I am now on 125mg per day.
