« on: February 11, 2014, 05:45:15 PM »

:'( I would dearly love some ideas, I have just started thyroxine this was a big shock as normal weight 52kg just put 8 kg on in a month ( no problem some may say but I feel bloated and fatigue with the extra weight and am in the menopause no period for 11 months, that came suddenly after losing my job am back in work now. Just had heart scan as heart rate and blood pressure very low and suspected to have angina (not on meds yet) waiting for another test been smoker for 37 years gave up 5 weeks ago. scared to try anything in case it clashes with other conditions or meds before I knew about thyroid was taking menopace but that has soya in which I understand is not good for thyroid. Hot flushes bad day and night, sleep crap 2 hours then up for wee and drink, vaginal soreness with sex, no interest in sex yet I have always been loving it (partner confused ) Please any ideas.

 :welcomemm:

Lots of advice here.  We have several threads on most of the problems you mention, even a print-of for 'husbands' ….

Read the menus left of screen
use the search button for the symptoms you have - i.e. vaginal atrophy and several threads will come up, same for flushes, smoking etc..

Recently there was discussion here about Thyroxine too.  You are not alone!

Hi,   I have been taking thyroxine for years too.  I also take Soya capsules and soya milk on my breakfast cereal which i have been doing for about 2 years and has really helped with flushes. My thyroid checks are always ok and i feel fine.

I do think they has been a lot of negative media about Soya lately maybe see what your G.p has to say.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi

I've been on thyroxine for at least 2 decades now. There seem to be so many do's and dont's.

take on empty stomach

leave at least half an hour before eating

take last thing at night

take at a different time of day from anti-depressants

avoid soya, black cohosh, sundry other meno treatments

No idea how accurate any of this is.  My GP (young, not impressive so far) is unable to advise me.

Rabbit I think you would really benefit from some Vagifem pessaries and maybe a bit of Ovestin cream too.  It would help both the wee and the sex problem, as far as comfort goes in any case.

Hi  .lots of good advice..I must agree most women really do feel better with local estrogen it should help you with the soreness and wee wee dilemma.

I use them and until I did went to hell and back with urinary infections and soreness.
Give them a try you have nothing to loose!
Pop in a pessarie and feel better.x :)

Thank you all for your replies at least I dont feel like I am alone :) I do believe HRT will help me.
Just one more issue bothering me at present, as I mentioned in my other post been having some heart tests well my ECHO was fine my 24 hour ECG was again fine which is brill, then had cardiac calcium screening without receiving any results I  have been asked to have a CT cardiac angiogram coronary so they can look at my arteries more. Now what my delemia is, is after being a smoker for over half my life II would not expect to have clear arteries hence why I have packed in, but if I have this CT it will be the 3rd bout of radiation in 2 weeks (bump on head lead to CT scan) now if I am not mistaken radiation is not good for you and thyroid issue. Am I being over cursious in asking cardiologist to tell me how big my risk of blocked arteries is before we have this test instead of them doing a procedure that has risks. feel like lab rat cause noone speaks to you. If my heart was really poorly that would show in the other tests that where fine.  This is further delaying hormone plans too. any ideas anyone eles had these issues. :'(

Hi rabbit

 :welcomemm: from me too.

I am afraid I can't help you with your various health issues, but I do think it is important to get them sorted out before embarking on HRT and not to worry about a little delay if you can possibly bear to wait.

I also think you have a right to be told as much as you need to know about what tests you are being offered and why, at every stage, and to be able to weight up the pros and cons, and the risks if you don't have them.  I would not want to cut corners if I thought my arteries and my heart might be at risk. I don't know about the different procedures, but yes tests involving radiation should only be used when absoutely necessary. The doctors must think that the potential risks of your not having the tests far outweigh any risks attached to having them.

Make sure you are able to have a full discussion about the tests you have had so far, and expressing your fears, before you have the angiogram, to put your mind at rest.

:congrats: for giving up smoking after so many years!
